What We Played: Face of the True Sun/Son (Polaris)

We do the standard two protagonist setup in the stock setting. Joe had played before, but Max and Gene were new to Polaris.

Rastaban (Max, antagonist Joe) -- Rastaban a peerless knight and the heir to the throne, but he's not the king's son. Does that make the king's actual son mad? Oh yes it does, at least until Rastaban's faithful (?) chariot driver carves out the prince's heart and gives it to Rastaban in a box.

Chara (Ben, antagonist Gene) -- Chara's a harpist and lover of the beauty of the People. His fate: the idea that it is their art and beauty that makes them great, not their strength of arms. When a charismatic poet starts spreading a (heretical) faith that the sun -- the terrible, hated, star-obliterating sun -- is truly more beautiful than anything the People embrace, Chara is caught in the middle, wanting to forestall a violent crackdown but at the same time resisting the invitations of the sun-worshipers to join them.

I think Max and Joe were rocking it with all their demon hearts and bloody murder. Gene and I were doing a much more slow-burn and complicated philosophical theme, which at times made it hard for us to keep our story straight. We were really playing more of a Shock-style game.

Gene and Max, what did you guys think of Polaris?

I enjoyed the game despite perhaps not understanding it that well. As you mentioned the two stories played out quite differently which in a way is probably better.
