Our two knight-protagonists were named Caelum and Asha, with the former being a legendary knight who started his arc by returning from an adventure having slain the Guardian of the Tome of the Stars, a powerful and demonic book of magic. He returned to the castle with the Tome, a scene which introduced us to Caelum's distant father and his womanizing, romantic brother, Sarira, who was in the midst of initiating an entanglement with the princess of the realm, Jhai. Upon overhearing this, her brother, Altair, spread rumors that Caelum's Tome was not the real Tome at all, leading to its verification by the court sage. Unfortunately, during the verification process, the princess, who was interested in the occult, read part of and was cursed by the now guardian-less Tome.

Eventually, a further examination of the book revealed that the only way to lift the curse from the princess was to resurrect the Guardian of the Tome. Gathering all the necessary implements for the ritual, Caelum proceeded to perform the resurrection rite, only to discover that he had misinterpreted the purpose of the ritual: Instead of a straight resurrection, the rite only summoned an entity capable of performing the resurrection for him, leading to Caelum's coming face-to-face with the Solaris Knight.

The Solaris Knight's condition for the resurrection of the Tome Guardian and the removal of the curse was to have Caelum remove the holy protection on his sword, a condition to which Caelum agreed. Although the curse-removal went as planned, the princess, who was present at the ritual, gained an all-consuming obsession with the Solaris Knight, to the detriment of her personal and mental health. Sarira considered this simply unacceptable and decided to solve the matter in the worst way possible: By challenging the Solaris Knight, who actually showed.

In an attempt to preserve his brother's life, Caelum acted as second in the conflict and engaged the Solaris Knight, who had chosen to manifest himself in the body of the princess. Ultimately, the duel ended with the death of the princess by Caelum's sword, making another step on the path to the sword's corruption. In response to this action, Sarira decided to poison his brother. Having caught him in the act, Caelum killed his brother and was subsequently disowned by his father, leading to his wandering out into the icy wilderness.

An undisclosed number of years in the future, the Queen's personal bodyguard, the Lady Asha, began her day and duties with her usual sniping with Ras Elesed, the Queen's personal counsel. After being sent to fetch some ice for the Queen's head due to one of her customary migraines, Asha encountered the Guardian of the Tome on its way to the castle, and found herself frozen in place by its gaze. After the demon was turned back from the castle with the help of the castle guard, Asha sought to prove herself by heading out to the demon's lair and slaying it. After being successful in her quest, Asha returned with the frozen head of the demon, which began exerting a rather unsavory influence on the queen.

In a mirroring of Caelum's storyline, Asha also discovered a way to break the curse, although it involved taking the demonic taint onto her own soul instead of the Queen's, a price she was more than willing to pay due to her now romantic/sexual love for her Queen. Having freed the Queen from the demonic influence, Asha found that Ras was in league with demonic powers, challenged him to a duel, and slayed him. Unfortunately, the Queen's daughter, upon returning from an undisclosed adventure with news of her twin brother's death, did not take kindly to Asha's affair with her mother or her killing of Ras, and challenged her.

Being unwilling to fight the princess, the princess ended up naming a second: Asha's mentor. Asha defeated her mentor, making him yield, and destroyed his fighting reputation in the process.

Eventually, Asha ended up confronting a demon force on the battlefield, and due to her wielding of Sir Caelum's unprotected sword, the blood spilt corrupted the sword completely, leading to her own encounter with the Solaris Knight. Hers was a more stereotypical encounter, with the Knight doing the usual waxing philosophic and encouraging her to yield to temptation, while Asha asserted that she would uncorrupt the sword.

Instead of uncorrupting the sword, Asha ended up challenging another knight and ended up with his (still holy) sword, and eventually living openly as both a knight and the Queen's lover. Unfortunately, the damage to their reputations was great enough that thus began the undermining in the monarchy's authority, leading to the slow and painful decline of a once great kingdom.

Ah! Sorry. Martin = Asha, with Sarah as the antagonist, and Bryan = Caelum, with myself as the antagonist. I'll edit that in.
