We're a group formed Storyhunter, a platform that connects the world's biggest media companies with a professional network of freelance video journalists, documentary filmmakers, producers and directors. The Storyhunter ScreenUp was created to showcase the short documentaries produced by "Storyhunters" around the world for news outlets such as CNN, AJ+, National Geographic, Discovery Digital, shift by MSNBC, TIME, The Guardian, The New York Times and other publications.
There’s never been a better time to make non-fiction video. With just a backpack, camera, microphone and a laptop, anyone can make a world-class documentary. But without a community of peers and publishers supporting you, your work of art may get lost amongst the cat videos on YouTube, leaving you with no money, or glory.
That's why Storyhunter began hosting ScreenUps in 2012. Our goal is to connect forward-thinking publishers with a global community of journalists and filmmakers.
The format varies. We always screen great videos. Sometimes it's a screening followed by a Q&A with filmmakers. Sometimes it's a simple happy hour and time to network with filmmakers and publishers. We've had ScreenUps at bars. Art galleries. Theaters. And, even at people's houses.
Please let us know if you have any ideas for a ScreenUp, venue to hold one, or videos to screen. Also, if you don't live in in New York, let us know if you're interested in opening a ScreenUp chapter in your city.
