I don't know that I'd ever be considered anyone's hero.... recently was 2nd place in a local teacher contest. tried to help victims of a fire last Dec. when the apt. bldg next to me burned. Unfortunately, 2 dogs passed but thankfully, all tenants were rescued. It was frightening for me & changed my life. I wrote to companies requesting help in making the victim's holidays a bit brighter & collected clothes/donations from friends. It made me realize how much I have to be Thankful for & want to help others. I dropped off food/notes to thank the Firefighters/Police & continue to occasionally to thank them for all the lives they save. I began volunteering to help feed the poor. I don't think this makes one a hero but says they are aware that so many others need our help & are trying to give back. If everyone donated just a few hrs p/month just think what we could accomplish.. and the lives you would touch.
Some of the things I would consider doing are: start a volunteer organization so I could enlist people that could help build/renovate homes for people in need. Help start organizations that will help train/prepare people for employment & have referral program so they can find jobs more easily. Plan trips to foreign countries to aid with missions, landscaping, building, teaching, helping children, elderly and the poor. Help to start/sponsor programs that helps parents with disabled/mentally challenged children such as K.E.E.N. where I volunteered in MD. Help sponsor more organizations such as St. Jude's, Make a Wish Fondation and more. Work with companies to save money, be more earth conscious, adopt plans to go more "green" so we can save the earth from more pollutants, improve people's help and to create a united world team.
