Most of us regard stress as an outcome of circumstance: lack of money, loneliness, job demands, parenting demands, academic demands, noise, difficult people, the state of the world, nosey relatives, even the weather. The list is never ending. We often resort to relaxation techniques to reduce stress and although there is nothing wrong with this, the results are so often short-term. Addiction can be another way of dealing with stress: too much TV, obsessive shopping, internet, smoking, alcohol, drugs. That list is endless too. Addictive behavior itself becomes another source of stress.
But stress is never due to cirucmstance. In fact, it is impossible for any circumstance in life to cause you misery or stress. Stress comes from one source: our thinking. We have simply given our power over to circumstance.
The Work of Byron Katie invites us to gently question our thoughts about any situation and when we do so, we find that there is only one reason we feel stress: not the situation but how we are regarding it, what we are telling ourselves about it. This questioning allows stress to dramatically abate if not entirely disappear. Another benefit it that we can find insights that were never available to us before. This has the possiblity of altering our lives forever.
So stress, any stressful situation, can be the door to freedom. All it takes is some gentle and thouightful questioning. The Work of Byron Katie is basically four simple questions. Sounds easy? It is. And the results are life-altering.
Please come if you are interested in not only reducing stress in your life, but have a life-altering experience that has you reclaim your mind and your true inner power.
I have been a practioner of The Work of Byron Katie for over three years and have facilitated this meetup group for over a year. I have never found anything -- any technique, seminar, philosphy or transformative approach-- that has so effectively altered my life, career and relationships.
