Announcing a new Meetup for Strictly Belcourt!

What: Charlie Chaplin's The Kid

When: Monday, November 15,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Belcourt Theatre
2102 Belcourt Ave
Nashville, TN 37212
(615)[masked]

A co-meetup with Nashville Movie Fans. You can either come for the film at 7 (for the usual ticket price), or come at 5-5:15 for the "Wine, Food, and Film" option, which is $25 (for the wine, food, and movie).

The movie is The Kid (1921; 54 minutes), starring Charlie Chaplin as "The little fellow," as he sometimes called the character known as The Tramp, and little Jackie Coogan, first major child film star in the 2nd highest grossing film of the year, reworks some of Chaplin's own school of hard knocks childhood as The Tramp takes care of an abandoned baby, who becomes his partner in perpetrating scams. Pathos being a staple of Chaplin's comedies, a bond grows between the two, particularly touching as The Kid must face the possibility of being torn away from the only person whom he has loved. Also: short film The Idle Class (32 mins.).Coogan later co-starred as Uncle Fester on The Addams Family TV show. And because of his misfortune as a child star w/ his mother and step-father spending most of his fortune, the Coogan Act was passed to protect child performers' earnings from greedy adults. (thanks to member Jane Davis for this illuminating description)

Feel free to choose either option -- either way, Jane and I will be there.
