This very well-reviewed revenge drama is only scheduled to play for one week, so let's go see it on Monday night at 6:00. I'll be in the lobby by 5:50 and will hang around out there until just before showtime. As always, look for very curly hair and that is probably me.

At once a gripping thriller and a tragic drama of nearly Greek proportions, Revanche is the stunning, Oscar?nominated, international breakthrough film from Austrian filmmaker G?tz Spielmann. In a ragged section of Vienna, hardened ex-con Alex (the mesmerizing Johannes Krisch) works as an assistant in a brothel, where he falls for Ukrainian hooker Tamara (Irina Potapenko). Their desperate plans for escape unexpectedly intersect with the lives of a rural cop (Andreas Lust) and his seemingly content wife (Ursula Strauss). With meticulous, elegant direction, Spielmann creates a tense, existential, and surprising portrait of vengeance and redemption, and a journey into the darkest forest of human nature, in which violence and beauty exist side by side. Dir. Goetz Spielmann, Austria, 2008, 121min, in German w English subtitles, 35mm

If there is interest, we can go out for drinks or coffee afterwards to discuss the film.
