Many new events scheduled!

Hey Everyone:

The next few weeks at the Belcourt had a lot of tempting stuff on the calendar, so finally I just bit the bullet and scheduled everything I wanted to see (which is a lot). Please join me for a film or two in the next month, there's some excellent stuff coming up! Note that I typically turn email reminders "off", so you won't get another email notification for most of these events. Hope to see you at a movie soon!

Cheers,

Christy

This Saturday, February 27 at 6:20 - A TOWN CALLED PANIC
This Belgian stop-motion animated film defies description, but the trailers are mesmerizing and hilarious. This looks completely unique.

Wednesday, March 3 at 7:00 - PEEPING TOM
Released at the same time as, and often compared to, Psycho, this creepy voyeuristic thriller is part of the Film Noir series. Fido at 6:00, showtime at 7:00.

Saturday, March 6 at 7:00 (tentative) - GET CARTER
The Film Noir series continues with this classic starring swinging London and a young and gorgeous Michael Caine.

Sunday, March 7 at 6:00 - OSCAR NIGHT AMERICA
Join us for the Belcourt's biggest event and biggest fundraiser. A "red carpet" event, tickets are $75 ($50 for Belcourt members) and dress code is "black tie or Hollywood glamour". Get out the fancy duds!

Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 (tentative) - ODD MAN OUT
If you see only one film in the Film Noir series, make it this one, a great closer to the series, in a brand new 35mm print. RottenTomatoes.com gives this a rare 100% critic's rating. It's set in Belfast, so perhaps a nice warm up for the Belfast-Nashville songwriter night on the 13th? Come absorb some Noir and some Ireland with us!

Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 - BELFAST-NASHVILLE SONGWRITER SHOWCASE
This isn't on the Belcourt calendar yet, but according to Sister Cities of Nashville, this will be the night of their annual Belfast-Nashville Singer-Songwriter Night. Belfast is a sister city of Nashville, and this will be the third year that I've attended this event and it is always stellar - I can't recommend it highly enough (Nanci Griffith and Mary Gauthier in 2007 is a highlight memory).

Wednesday, March 17 at 7:00 (tentative) - NORTH FACE
Based on a true story, North Face is a gripping adventure about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. The recreation of 1930's technical climbing is supposedly spot-on and makes for edge-of-seat absorbing drama.
