It is fun!
How many ukulele's or musical instruments do you have?
Do you have an occasional Friday night or Sat. morning available to come out and meet with us? We also have different music clubs meeting during the week, as well as music classes on week nights (check out the calendar, we are a busy meetup site!)
How did you hear about us?
Hi, I am new to the ukulele. My brother introduced me over the holidays.
The Strum Shop is a family owned full line acoustic musical instrument store specializing in ukuleles, guitars, banjos, mandolins and dulcimers. We also carry a variety of other curious instruments that you should visit the store to see for yourself.
The Strum Shop was opened by Stu Herreid and Dan Elliott in May of 2012. One of the motivating factors for opening the store was the need for support of the rapidly growing community of ukulele players in the greater Sacramento area.
The Strum Shop is known for it’s many events held throughout the month, such as: workshops, classes, concerts and seminars.
The Strum Shop is also home to a variety of music clubs and gatherings:
Uke University: is a community-based Meetup group founded by Stu Herreid, which gets together at The Strum Shop once a month for a strum-a-long.
Banjo Ukulele Club: Explore the many song possibilities and rhythms of a wonderful little instrument called “The Banjo Ukulele”. Play and learn songs of the “Tin Pan Alley” time period, as well as embracing “clawhammer” style playing.
River City Ukes: is a group of like-minded individuals who enjoy delving into the finer points of playing ukulele, with the objective of performing a few times a year in the community to raise funds for our Ukes for Schools non-profit-program.
Roseville Acoustic Club: will be playing songs from the 50′s, 60′s, 70′s… all the way up to the 2000′s and beyond! So, if you like playing acoustic music, come on out and join us!
Irish Slow Session: is a learning circle (or Ceoltais). A traditional style of learning tunes. It offers the new-to-irish-music person the chance to hear tunes played in the style & learn them without concern about making mistakes. In a Ceoltais, unlike a regular session, all players are encouraged to play every tune no matter the tempo. Feel free to make mistakes, ask questions and experiment.
Bluegrass Jam: All ages and playing abilities are welcome. Banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, stand up bass and even an autoharp from time to time are a few of the instruments you can expect to see at our jam.
Baritone Ukulele Club: All ages and playing abilities are welcome to join in on our ‘Baritone Ukulele Play Time’! Even if you don’t own a uke, you are welcome to grab one off the wall of our shop and join right in! Everyone is encouraged to send a song or ten to play.
River City Dulcimer Club: For the last 2-1/2 years River City Dulcimers has been gathering at a private home in Carmichael. We are now moving to the Strum Shop! We hope more mountain dulcimer enthusiasts will join us. We welcome all players from beginners to professionals and all varieties of music. Our meetings always begin with a beginner lesson, and some loaner instruments are available.
Sacramento Songwriters Circle: The Sacramento Songwriter’s Circle meets to discuss the art of songwriting and to encourage and challenge each other to write songs! This is a friendly and safe place to bring the songs you’re working on, be inspired to write new songs, and have a great time exploring this wonderful art. Aspiring songwriters of all skill levels are invited.
The Strum Shop has a full time teaching staff that offers private lessons every day of the week and group lessons on various days throughout the week. We also have a full time in-house repair technician and have partnered with several outside luthiers for more extensive repairs.
We are a hands-on shop and encourage you to grab an instrument off the wall and play. For more information pleas visit out website @ www.thestrumshop.com
