Summer Film Challenge -- Can You Make It In Just One Shot?

Can You Make "A One Shot Movie"?

O.K. . . . here’s the challenge. Make a film that’s 1-5 minutes long, ALL IN ONE CONTINUOUS SHOT. That’s right: no cuts, fades, dissolves, combinations, PIP, green screening. No AE or FCP magic.

Can you tell a story with a single shot? *

Subject can be anything (no porn, please). Instructional, artsy, music video, dramatic, live action, medical, tell a joke (anybody can tell a joke) . . . whatever. Capture the funniest sequence of events that your dog, grandchild, local traffic cop, whatever does.

This should be easier than you might think, at first blush. There are so many potential subjects . . . and remember, sound is what you make of it. You can use the live-action sound, VO, Music Over, Sound-Effect over . . . whatever to complete the storyline in the viewers’ eye. Be as creative as we know you can!

We’re keeping the time frame for production on this pretty short. Almost 3 weeks to complete your project and present to members. Let’s face it, you won’t spend much time editing video!! Viewings will be concurrent with our previous Challenge (Same Place, Date and just after our other competition).

This can be one a person production or teams. Doesn’t matter. Just get behind a camera and shoot something!

* Film Credits are accepted as white on black (no overlays) before or after (or both) the actual content of your video, but cannot be part of the "One Shot".

Great meeting! Really enjoyed the videos and discussion. Perhaps at the next video challenge we could watch all the videos 2x: 1 x for the challenge; 1x after the meeting. After the second showing it would be super to talk about each video. So much to learn, so much to share!

Perhaps we had too little time to make this a full-blown as it oculd have been because we only had 2 entries in the one-shot story-telling challenge, but I think it got folks to thinking about what can be done in a very easy and short format. Good time had by all, anyhow and hopefully, folks learned some things in the process!!
