Volunteer Opportunity - Feed My Starving Children

FMSC is a faith-based humanitarian organization which packages and sends food to global areas affected by famine and war. They do many secular organizational and corporate events in which groups sort, weigh, and package grain for transport for a specific number of hours. it's hard work, but a ton of fun.

Info is here. http://www.fmsc.org/page.aspx?pid=260 I've done their events with the military in the past and they're hard work but a lot of fun, and no religious affiliation is required.

While they do look for some token donation from people who participate, by no means do they.

Since this is a charity event that relies on our work, please be fairly certain a couple weeks out you can go, or cancel your RSVP in advance.

(No sandals or flip-flops only for volunteers working in the warehouse).

    Last minute reminders:

****Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to get signed in at the computer.**** (If you're there after 8, you may not get to work at our table.)

Don't wear sandals or jewelry you're worried about losing.
Ladies and gents with long hair, tie your hair up to wear a hair net.
Don't come if you are not feeling well or if standing for two hours will cause you discomfort.

Parking instructions should have been emailed to you, if you did not get them let me know ASAP.

Do wear your SAZA swag! This is good PR for a firearms organization.

See you all tomorrow and let me know if you have questions and concerns. This should be very fun.

What is the suggested dress code? Is it messy or is it just work that needs hands to do?

    1 · October 14, 2013

    • Lesley

They will need a couple (2-4) people from our group to be warehouse people. That might be a bit sweaty work carrying boxes and supplies for the two hours. The rest of the job is just 'hands needed' - measuring, bagging, sealing, and boxing. You do need to wear close toed shoes, and no jewelry you don't mind locking in their lockers or your car.

The only way I won't be there is if there is a 'tax emergency' at work. (Yes, there are tax 'emergencies' at my job). The state of corporate America is so sad today.

Having kids is like that at times as well. Being an adult always gets in the way of having fun.

We're a low pressure group. Just make it when you can make it, and always feel free to suggest dates that work for you.

    See you there tomorrow.

I will need a confirmation from people pretty soon. I heard from them today and they're going to need a list of names, soonish.

    Hi Lesley,

It was lovely to speak with you today!
As the organizer of your service group, please attend to these details before your packing event:

Manage your group reservation at Volunteer Reservations. Add the names of all attending and adjust your group size to reflect the exact number attending. Should you need to cancel your group or reduce your number for any reason please do so as soon as possible so we can open those spots up to others who are anxiously awaiting availability to come in to pack so that we can meet our meal commitments to our partners around the world.

    · Instruct volunteers to follow our no jewelry policy and to wear close toed shoes (No sandals or flip-flops only for volunteers working in the warehouse).

      I'm confirming my confirmation.

I am 90% sure I will be there, it depends on when I get off work. Is there any way for me to show up late, if I get off work late?

      September 29, 2013

  • Enrique R.

    Lesley,
Regarding schedule, I am available any time for this one (could even move my stuff around), as long as I am in town since I am about to start in my new post on Aug 1st.
