Vegan Bake Sale

Hello Everyone,

We're hosting a Vegan Bake Sale at Countryside Unitarian Church! I'm extremely proud of how successful our bake sales have been so far and how much we've been able to donate to Mercy for Animals, HEART, Save-A-Pet, Creatively Caring, and Have A Heart Farm. For this bake sale we will be raising funds for Wedrose Acres Animal Sanctuary in Gridley, Il. Wedrose is a non-profit animal sanctuary and wetland environment for wildlife and farm animals. They support the prevention of cruelty to all animals. Their residents include dogs, cats, alpacas, llamas, pigs, geese, a turkey, a cow, donkeys, horses, and many goats! https://www.facebook.com/wedroseacres

If you would like to donate a baked good, you can drop it off by 9:30am at Countryside, or arrange a drop-off at my house in Mundelein. Can't bake but want to enjoy the sweets? Come join us and purchase some yummy baked goods. (And don't forget to bring a container so you can take lots home with you!)

If you're not familiar with vegan baking, check your local library or bookstore to see what cookbooks they offer. Vegan baking does not include dairy (butter, milk, cream cheese, etc.), eggs, or honey. There are wonderful products out there such as Earth Balance, flaxseed, applesauce, and Ener-G Egg Replacer you can use instead. Here's some helpful info from Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale.

http://www.veganbakesale.org/veganbakesale/vbs-vegan-baking-tips.html

When you rsvp, please state whether you are baking, attending, etc. We'll also need a few volunteers to help man the tables. If you're baking something, you can put it on a platter with your name on the bottom and we'll get it back to you. We'll also bring a few platters you can use. Don't worry about pricing, we'll take care of that.

Hope to see you there!

Kathy

I don't think we posted how much the bake sale made. We raised $320.00 total for Wedrose Acres! Thank you so much to everyone who baked, helped sell, and came out to buy. We couldn't have done it without you!

I almost passed out today when I saw a gay flag, and a wole line of ev's parked next to eachother, and people talking about social justice, and there is apparently an environmental group that meets up there. I will indeed be coming back. Lets just say, today i saw signs of human intelligence..

Thanks for the pumkin bread and ill get your 50 cents back.

I will bake something and attend. Do you still need help manning the tables? I would be happy to help, just let me know if I need to show up early for that.
    Thanks!

Kathy I am running into some scheduling issues and may only be able to stay for a little while. I hope that is not a problem.

    What about fruit salad?

Hi minorkey, We are focusing on baked goods for the sale. One of our goals is to promote baking without eggs and dairy, and to show people how vegan baking is just as good and tasty as non-vegan baked goods. Some fruit salad at the next potluck would be welcome, though!

Ok thanks for letting me in on that... I will try not to hog too much of it tomorrow. :-)

    Hi, Kathy,
Do you have enough bakers for next week? I wasn't planning on baking, but I plan to bring some plant milks again to pass out as free samples...
Was also wondering if anyone knows of a brochure or leaflet about vegan baking, for people to take home and peruse? Or maybe I'll just write one up myself...

I will try and get there around 9 am to help set up tables, etc. I think we may join you in donating our proceeds to Wedrose Acres, but the final word is not in yet...

Hi Belinda, it would be great if you're able to bake something for the sale. I only have a couple of people who have said they will bake, and you never know who might need to drop out at the last second. There is a helpful section on the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale site with vegan baking tips. Thanks for your help! http://www.veganbakes...

Hi Kathy, I just saw this... Thought I had notifications set up. Grrr.
However, I can bake a couple of things!
I actually bake vegan things often, just never have for a sale.
At this point, I can bake at least two loaves of sweet breads, such as banana choc chip and/or pumpkin, something like that.

Hi Jaci! Welcome to the group! The bake sale is during the church's coffee hours, so stuff like muffins, cookies, and coffee cake tend to sell well. But we always love to have a wide variety too. Thanks so much for helping out!

Great! I'll make a few different kinda of cookies, muffins and if I have time, cupcakes. I have a race on the 28th to support the animal rescue I volunteer with so I'll need to drop everything off the night before.

Hi everyone! I'm new to meet up. I'd love to bake as much as I can for this event. Are there certain things that tend to sell more than others?

I'll be in transit from a Rosh Hashana trip. Have a great time, everybody!
