Announcing a new Meetup for Suburban Chicago Vegetarian Meetup!

What: 24th Annual Save-A-Pet Pet-Athlon

When: Saturday, May 22,[masked]:00 AM

Wauconda, IL 60084

Hi Everyone!

The 24th Annual Save-A-Pet Pet-Athlon is one month away and I would like to put a team together to do the 5k walk/run. It will be held at the Lakewood Forest Preserve's Shelter E in Wauconda, IL on Saturday May 22, 2010 from 10AM to 2PM. There is also a shorter route available for those who don't want to do the 5k. In addition to the walk/run the day is filled with contests, games, educational programming, lunch (there were veggie dogs at the Pet-athlon last fall, but the food honestly wasn't that great. We could bring our own food and have a potluck afterwards), and more.

Lakewood Forest Preserve is located near Wauconda in southwestern Lake County.
The main entrance (to Museum and Shelters C, D and E) is located on Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road.

The registration fee is $25.00. Save-A-Pet is a no-kill animal shelter located in Grayslake and the money goes to:

... more than 500 animals due to abuse, neglect, loss, and relinquishment. It is part of our mission to provide wellness services to rescued animals at all costs. These costs include processing and expenses for intake, vaccinations, surgeries, prescription food, preventative medications, chronic illness medications, and the emotional healing of the residents. We also educate the community about animal welfare, animal health care, and train adopters in preventative care and solving behavioral problems.

We can also raise funds for our team. The team (Team name "Suburban Vegans") has been set up, and this is our fundraising page:

Please send this link out to your friends and family and ask for donations. Every little bit helps and goes to the animals.
