  • Join Rockland Forager Paul Tappenden and Herbalist Elana Fine to learn about native plants and how to use them in your every-day cooking and home medicinal use.

Course Description - One class option

Each course will start with a plant identification walk. You will learn about common edible plants and the habitat they grow in.

Paul will point out the parts that are edible: shoots, leaves, buds, berries, nuts, or roots. Some plants can be eaten raw and we will be tasting these as we go along. Certain plants need to be cooked first to be palatable.

Many plants have high nutritional values, one of the many great benefits of foraging for wild edible plants.

Plant ID is a very important part of this workshop. You will learn about poisenous look-alikes and how to make sure the plant you pick is a safe one to eat.

In the second part of our workshop you will learn how to prepare a simple dish with the plants we collected. We will be able to taste a variety of dishes, some made ahead of class.

Finally, our Herbalist Elana will show how to make natural remedies like infused oils, salves and tinctures, as well as herbal first-aid remedies.
We will make simple yet delicious herbal teas, medicinal syrups, and herbal vinegars as well. This part of the class is hands-on and you will be able to take home your very own remedy each class.
