This is exploratory since I have been on this hike, but never led this hike.
Gold Strike Hot Springs is a popular hike in the Las Vegas area near Lake Mead. The trail-head is located a half-mile past the Hacienda Hotel in Boulder City-- just before the Hoover Dam. We'll hike through a beautiful slot canyon with towering walls on each side while passing several hot springs and hot waterfalls on the way. Our final destination will be the Colorado River. Here we will eat lunch or a snack on the banks of the Colorado.
The distance for the hike is 6 miles round trip and requires climbing over several massive boulders. It's somewhat like an obstacle course but that's what makes it fun. It should take 5 to 6 hours round trip but will depend upon how much time we spend at the hot springs and at the river. We will not be lounging in the hot springs on this trip, so a suit will not be necessary.
Beginners may be intimidated by some of the rocks and boulders we'll encounter, but a slow pace and tons of encouragement and helping hands will make sure everyone gets through safely. Ropes are attached in some of the more challenging places as an added measure of safety. Nonetheless, serious injury is always a possibility.
It will be cool out so bring a jacket. Be sure to wear sturdy boots, bring gloves (we will be doing some minor repelling), a hat and of course the usual....lots of water, a snack and don't forget your camera! This is a fun hike but also very challenging....it does provide a full body work out....so be prepared!
We will follow up this hike with fun, laughs, great eats, and a glass of hydration at Milo's Wine Cellar. Our favorite place to unwind after any hikes in this area. Its up to you if you want to attend :)
Please RSVP with integrity.
