GHOST TOWN Road Trip
Some hiking, some exploring, some goofy stuff, and LOTS of fun! Join us as we travel a short distance into California to visit a ghost town from the 1880's. There will be tons of photo opportunities in the old west town.
Calico is an old West mining town that has been around since 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. When silver lost its value in the mid-1890's, Calico lost its population. The miner's packed up, loaded their mules and moved away abandoning the town that once gave them a good living. It became a "ghost town."
Today Calico is part of the San Bernardino County Regional Parks system visited by people from around the country and all over the world.
There is an entrance fee of $8.00 per person. Pay at the gate.
There are three restaurants operating in the town. Let's plan to have lunch in one of them. If you're on a restricted diet or just plain feel like bringing your own lunch - go for it!
Plan to spend a couple of hours at the park wandering around, having lunch and taking pictures, etc. There are a few trails in nearby Odessa Canyon that we will go check out. Come prepared to journey out a ways onto those. It will be completely exploratory since I haven't been there.
