Your attendance at the Town of Brookhaven Meeting April 23 at 5pm is needed:
Many of you have been hearing about the gun debate going on recently. The new law that was passed is called the "SAFE Act". What it is supposed to do is protect children. Im all for protecting children but this law does not do anything to protect children.
What it actually does is infringe on our second amendment right to keep and bear arms, meaning the law is unconstitutional. It has been said that Freedom is not free, this is true and people like us must stand up for freedom. And right now our freedom is at stake, if we are unable to defend ourselves because of a NYS law, we are not free.
Even if you are not a "gun" person or if you don't like guns at all, please consider the other issue that is at stake here. Our Governor passed this law by using a measure that is supposed to be used for emergencies only. What he did was, he skipped the 3 day legislative process of review. This 3 day period is usually where the kinks are worked out and lawmakers can discuss and have an intelligent debate about the various issues in the bill. Cuomo skipped this 3 day period. This is unethical and inappropriate. He proposed the Bill Jan 14 and made everyone vote on it that night without having a chance to even read it, mush less think about it or discuss it.
That is not the way laws should be passed. This violates our right to liberty. To have a law (that most people dont agree with) passed overnight is not what should happen in America.
I have submitted a request for a resolution to Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine to oppose the NY Safe Act. This is a way to have the voices of the people heard. We would be not be the first in NY to do this. Right now, 53 COUNTIES in NY have already passed resolutions. The law is unconstitutional and was passed with a tyrannical abuse of power.
In support of this resolution, Please consider attending the public Board Meeting of the Town of Brookhaven on April 23 at 5pm at 1 Independence Hill Farmingville NY 11738. The meeting is open to the public.
I also have petitions that can be signed in support of this (Brookhaven town residents). Our freedom has been challenged and our rights have been violated, its time to take a stand. -Heather Georgiou
