Special Convention to Amend Bylaws

On Tuesday, April 30th, the Exectutive Commitee of the Suffolk LO is calling a special convention for the purpose of amending the bylaws for the purpose of preventing the hijacking of the county committee by spurious new members that may work against the Libertarian Party's positions and platform.  To this end, the Suffolk LO is proposing to amend the bylaws as follows:

Article III, letter A to be amended to read:

Membership in the Suffolk LO shall be open to any individual who submits a completed Membership Application as determined by the County Committee, the individual will be a member in good standing of the county Libertarian Party, and who pays dues as determined by the County Committee.

Article III letter C to be added to read:

A member in good standing shall be determined to be a member that has fulfilled sections A and B of membership, has attended at least 25% of regularly scheduled general Suffolk LO meetings, and has paid their dues at least 15 days before any committee regular business votes, and 180 days before voting in any scheduled annual       convention(s) or special conventions.

Article V letter A to be amended to read:

The officers of the Suffolk LO shall be the Chair, the Vice Chair, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.  An officer of the Suffolk LO may not hold any other county committee position, however an officer of the Suffolk LO may hold state Libertarian Party and/or National Libertarian Party positions, according to the rules of the respective state and national bylaws.  An officer must be a member in good standing with a minimum of 180 days membership, unless suspended by a majority vote at an annual convention.

In addition, all references to "Suffolk LO" in all documents and bylaws be replaced by "Libertarian Party of Suffolk County New York", to be abbreviated as "LPSC".

Much was accomplished earlier this evening. Spirited debate over proposed bylaw changes that were proposed. All passed in the end with two being unanimous. Modifications were made and I think that the party here is Suffolk will be better off down the road.
I am very happy that we could come together and find common ground.
    Watch for the final report.

How can we have a special convention on 1 day's notice?
    The bylaws say we can't.

    3. Written notice shall be provided to each Suffolk LO member in good standing not less than ten (10) nor more than sixty (60) days in advance of any Convention. Such notice shall include the date, time and location of the Convention, and, for Special Conventions, shall also include who is calling the Special Convention and for what purpose. Attendance without protest at any Convention by any member shall constitute a waiver of notice, as shall the signing of a waiver of notice before or after the Convention.
