The Sufi is the child of the moment: an evening of poetic and musical play

The Sufi is the child of the moment -

O friend, it is not the rule of the way

to reflect upon tomorrow

Our Poetry Cafe events revert back to the first Saturday of the month, so come and join us as we explore this moment. With scheduled music and poetry, there is an open invitation to share your original spiritual poetry or music, or a favourite reading.

And we are delighted to have actor Sumit Chavravarti perform an adaptation of a story from Rumi's Mathnavi.

January's event was such a vibrant evening, and fully a third of the large audience stepped forward with original contributions. It felt like so many people were taking risks, and it was a reminder that spirituality is not just a safe option curled up with a book and aromatherapy at home. Join the adventure!

When I see Manatita and Joseph and Urvi step up and perform their poetry it makes me think we should organize something specially for them - they really are talented. And then Tanya Wells blew in and amazed us with her voice and command of qawwali which she'd learnt in India. She took us on a jam with Man Kunto Maula and Mast Qalandar and then left as mysteriously as Mary Poppins. Thanks also to Sumit Chakravarti for performing a story from Rumi. I really do thank everyone who contributed as I was so under the weather.
