    sorry, I don't have a horse :(

Here is the response I received from one of the staff at Caspers Park: "As to your questions regarding the equestrian campground, yes, you must have a horse to camp in this area. Each campsite has two corrals and is the only place we can accommodate horses. Without the policy, it is possible that we would have those camping with a horse arrive unable to get a campsite.
In the past we did try this to see how it would go. We learned quickly that mixing those with horses and those without horses did not mix…. "Some of the issues were environmental… horses draw more flies and made this uncomfortable for those unprepared. Another issue was safety. It is best if only those familiar with horses camp near them."

Therefore, I am switching my RSVP from Yes to No. If any of the rest of you are not planning to show up, please change your RSVP accordingly. I will work on arranging a campout for early August, or if anyone else wants to arrange one, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Chris

So there isn't really a site booked for this? Anyone want to step up? I'll pay my share...

Wish this was at Carpinteria Beach camp ground. The Summer Solstice Parade in Santa Barbara is that weekend. Would have been an amazing combination trip.... Guess I will be in Santa Barbara. If the OC does not work, any chance to do Carpinteria?

Hi Greta, You are welcome to propose an event for the weekend of June 21 at Carpinteria Beach. On the right side of this page, just under the group name is a menu item called "Group Tools." Click on that and enter information for a proposed event and if at least 3 people indicate they are interested in attending, I believe it will end up on our calendar. Give it a try and see what happens.

Insufficient yes votes to move forward with reserving the group site. The rules say that in order to stay at an equestrian site, you must bring a horse. I will contact the park superintendent on Tuesday to find out how rigorously that rule is enforced. If one of you know, please enlighten us.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Local campouts are such fun and easy to drive to. Add Leo Carillo Beach to the list, in Malibu. They have campfire pits, and right across from the beach. Wonderful place to spend the weekend.

put in the suggestions. when enough people are interested e can make it a trip. Better yet, reserve a site or two and post it in the suggestions. I can make it an official trip with you as the leader.

    • Rae

It's a popular place, so that's why you will need to just go ahead and reserve the space. If it's far enough in advance you will definitely find enough people to go.

Hi Campers, I have made a tentative reservation for the San Juan Meadows Group site A3. We have until June 5 to confirm the reservation or let it go. The cost is $150/night for up to 25 people and up to 8 cars. If we fill completely, that works out to $12 per person. I will complete the reservation if at least 20 campers respond by Friday, May 31 that they are committed to attending and willing to pay in advance for their party. If you have already RSVP'd for this event, I still need you to respond to this message about whether you want to participate in the group campsite. If I get enough positive responses, I will send out an email explaining how you can pay and participate in the group site. Thanks,
    Chris

If you have paypal... if people don't send it as a "gift" they will change a processing fee, so I'd suggest having two prices - one price for those who follow directions and a price that includes the fee for those who don't.

any more spots / group room available?

    May 29, 2013

  • Chris B.

It appears that the only camp sites still available are in the Starr Mesa Equestrian Campground. The sites are $20/each and accommodate up to 8 campers, but only one vehicle. Extra vehicles are $5/night. I have called to see if the group campsite is available and will post the answer when I get a call back. Has anyone else made a reservation? If so, for which campground? I'm willing to share my campsite as there will be only two adults in my party. Chris

No one was stepping up so i picked a date for this. There is no official leader for this trip.

Reserve your own campsite and post on the message board that you got one. You can use the message Board to coordinate sharing campsites If you want to share and split the cost with others. Same with carpool.
