Leisurely Canoeing/Kayaking on the Eno River, Durham

Let's meet for a leisurely flat water paddle at West Point on the Eno city park in Durham. We'll go early to beat the heat. Bring your own canoe or kayak, or rent one on site from Frog Hollow Outdoors. Tandem canoes rent for $12/hr and solo kayaks rent for $8/hr on a first come, first served basis (bring cash). Since we will be arriving right when the rentals open at 9 am, I don't foresee any trouble obtaining enough boats for our group. However, if a lot of folks plan to rent, I will give Frog Hollow a heads-up phone call in advance, so please indicate in your RSVP if you plan to rent a boat or bring your own. If you want to share a canoe, post info in the comments and ask people to contact you directly. We can paddle about a half mile upstream on flat water to Sennett's Hole (a swimming hole), and then paddle back down to the dam. This takes about an hour and is not strenuous. A short section of wading through a shallow area is required to reach the swimming hole. This event is suitable for novice paddlers. Link to park map: http://www.trailsofnc.com/west_point_eno_pa...

Park in the lower parking lot near the EE Center, or along the loop road near the Mill Bldg. in designated parking spots. Walk down to the river near the dam -- that's where Frog Hollow will be set up with their rental boats. Please be on time! If you are bringing your own boat, allow some extra time to carry it from your car to the launch site.

The minimum number of participants for this event is 4. If fewer than that RSVP "yes," I will reschedule the event.

Other things to bring: sunscreen, hat, beverages, tubes or other flotation devices for playing in the river, suitable shoes for paddling/swimming (you want something that won't come off your feet easily -- i.e. not flip-flops), swimwear if you want to swim, towel if you plan to get wet.

There's a restroom with flush toilets available at the park.

Paddle at your own risk. This is a kid-friendly event but please be mindful of your child's attention span and boating/swimming ability. Contact Frog Hollow Outdoors directly at[masked] for more information if you plan to paddle with a child in a rental boat. Leashed dogs are also welcome. Frog Hollow allows dogs in their boats but please consider space limitations as well as logistics. A small dog can fit in a kayak but a big one probably can't. You may have a more fun and leisurely paddle without your dog along.

This meetup is subject to cancellation in the event of adverse weather conditions.

Between this group and the other group, looks like we have 18 people who want to rent. I'm therefore capping attendance at 8 for this group, because I if any more people sign up who want to rent, there may not be enough boats available. If you want to participate and you have your own boat, contact me and I'll manually add you to the list.
