Hike #14 Western Corridor Series of the Florida National Scenic Trail

We continue south on the Western Corridor of the Florida National Scenic Trail through the Green Swamp West from Ranch Road to the MacNeil Entrance on SR 471.  We will meet at 8:30 AM and shuttle to Ranch Road to begin the day's hike!

9 miles.

This is the last hike in this series led by the Suncoast Chapter.  The fifteenth and final hike of the series will be led by David Waldrop from the Heartland Chapter: 13 miles through the Green Swamp East.

From our (Suncoast) Chapter - I want to thank Gordy Hawkins, Tommy Hogan and Lenny Chew for their leadership with the hikes and Mitch Almon, Tommy (again), Neil Fox and the maintenance folks for their outstanding work.

Thanks to following people from other FTA Chapters.  These folks led hikes, did maintenance, shuttled cars and told some wild stories!

Bob Jones, Jacques Steer, Del Bollinger - Crackers Chapter

Bill and Linda Taylor  - Hallifax / St. Johns Chapter.

Thanks Elizabeth for all your hard work. A very successful trip with mad shuttle skill organization. This area is so nice but often misunderstood because it is called Geeen SWAMP. Just so everyone knows we did not walk through a swamp. Backpackers be advised, many of the lakes and water sources are really getting dry.

Many thanks to Elizabeth for her patient leadership; blessings abound to have such good people like Gordy to share interesting factoids about our environment; overall a fun day and I look forward to more hikes in the near future...

Are we meeting at the 471 end then shuttling back to the ranch road beginning?

    February 20, 2013

Where exactly is the meet up spot? Does this hike start just outside of Dade City in Pasco and conclude off 471 toward Lakeland? Is there a shuttle back to the vehicles at the beginning? I'm a bit confused, sorry I'm a bit map challenged...

we meet at the end and car shuttle to start. Go to SR 471 meeting point that is shown on the map. It should help out.

Or I can meet you in the NE corner of the Home Depot parking lot. It's the one located southwest of I-275 on 22nd Ave.

Sounds like a fun day hike; looks like it's full already though, guess I may have to wait for the next one. I'm new to this group of outdoor enthusiasts; looking forward to some good times on the trail. Be safe y'all.

Not sure - is this 9 miles or 13 miles and what is the pace?

    February 16, 2013

    • treehouseyoga

Pace will be 20-22. Let me be clear: if you are not certain you are in condition to walk a further distance - say 12 miles - through the swamp and woods, this is NOT an appropriate first hike.

I do not have a clue where this is on cr 471. Do you have an exact address that I can put in my nav system?

    February 16, 2013

    • treehouseyoga

I just changed the map on this page. It is now correct and the coordinates are included. The McNeil Entrance is just north of the Withlachoochee River (bridge) on 471.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
