> What: Hike #12 of Western Corridor Series
> Day/Date/Time: Wednesday, February 6, 2013. 8:15 a.m.
> Hike: SR 50 spur to Lachoochee Road with River Loop
> Meet Pt:Circle K/Shell station, N.E. corner of Hwy 301 and SR 50. East of Ridge Manor
> Course: Approx 7 miles. The hike is lollipop shaped (more like a melted lollipop)
> Pace: about 20 - 22 minutes per mile. With breaks anticipate 3 1/2 hours.
> What to Bring: 1 1/2 - 2 quarts of water, snack to eat en route, sandwich for when we break, sunscreen, insect repellent.
> Note: Highly recommended is a hiking stick. There are a couple short segments with skinny ground vines that grab your shoestrings. The hike stick will give an extra point of balance.
The hike will be in the Richloam Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. If you haven't hiked here before this will be a good chance to become acquainted. We will be diverted from the original trail because of high water and a section that is burned out. The river loop is a beautiful stretch that goes along the Withlacoochee River. The habitat and aura of the Richloam is different from the Croom and Citrus tracts.
