Hike #12 Western Corridor Series of the Florida National Scenic Trail

> What: Hike #12 of Western Corridor Series
> Day/Date/Time: Wednesday, February 6, 2013. 8:15 a.m.
> Hike: SR 50 spur to Lachoochee Road with River Loop
> Meet Pt:Circle K/Shell station, N.E. corner of Hwy 301 and SR 50. East of Ridge Manor
> Course: Approx 7 miles. The hike is lollipop shaped (more like a melted lollipop)
> Pace: about 20 - 22 minutes per mile. With breaks anticipate 3 1/2 hours.
> What to Bring: 1 1/2 - 2 quarts of water, snack to eat en route, sandwich for when we break, sunscreen, insect repellent.
> Note: Highly recommended is a hiking stick. There are a couple short segments with skinny ground vines that grab your shoestrings. The hike stick will give an extra point of balance.

The hike will be in the Richloam Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. If you haven't hiked here before this will be a good chance to become acquainted. We will be diverted from the original trail because of high water and a section that is burned out. The river loop is a beautiful stretch that goes along the Withlacoochee River. The habitat and aura of the Richloam is different from the Croom and Citrus tracts.

Martin, my apology if my response to your comment was a bit "curt".

Martin, keep an eye on the calendar and hopefully something on the hike schedule will soon fit for you guys. We still have a few good months for hiking meetups.

Thank you Gordy for being such a gracious and professional leader. Joe and I enjoyed exploring this area and the company of such friendly fellow hikers. My fourth hike with the group and Joe's second.

It's been interesting to see the different areas along the Western Corridor. This part of the trail seemed more wild to me...maybe it was all the tall grass. I enjoyed meeting new folks and feel like I'm beginning to really get to know some of those that have hiked each week with the group. Thanks Gordy for leading us - I appreciate your knowledge of the area and willingness to lead us!
