Tune Up for Purgatory on Earth (POE) Summer Series

What: Tune Up for Purgatory on Earth (POE) Summer Series
When: Friday May 10, 2013 at 8:00 a.m.
Where: Citrus Tract, Meet at Holder Mine and car pool from there.
Route:6 1/2  - 7 miles. We will do just the northern half of B Loop. Oaks, pines, flats, hills, sun, shade - it's got it all.

Oh boy! It must have been some kind of year! Believe it or not, I have had several requests to lead the POE summer series, but each request was with a quivering voice, obviously knowing what POE series is all about.  Over the past 12 months some of you are truly in need of mercy for what we shall politely call 'undivine behavior'.  So just to give you the courage to face the summer series, this hike will be a tune up.

What to bring: 2 qts water, insect repellent, sunscreen, sandwich, snack, a beaming smile.
Note: Instead of shorts, light weight long pants (or long socks) might be preferred.  There is a short section with long grass and leg scrapers.

Sounds like you made a good decision. It is about a 2 hour drive for me to get there, so a shorter hike doesn't seem practical. But you gave me an idea, maybe in the cooler weather I could camp up there and have a hike for a couple days in a road, so it is more practical. Stay healthy
    Take care, Gordy

Gordy, thanks for your response and the map. I don't think I can keep up that pace for 7 miles. (I'm not even sure I can do 7 miles at all. 6.5 is the most I have done recently, and the last .5 was a struggle.) So I think this hike is not for me. Sorry.

    Hi Phyllis,
Here is a more current map. We will carpool to horse trough on FR 13 and then do the top half of B loop. There is a dirt road not on the map that we will take. When I was there it had high grass but could be walked through. There will be a little bushwhacking. The route is about 7 miles and we will be going about 20 - 22 minutes per mile effort. Hope that fits for you. Take care,

I see on the map that from 5-mile pond to Perryman Place is 6.7 miles. Is this the portion you are planning to hike? Where would the shuttles be? I have absolutely zero interest in a POE hike, but I would be interested in hikes about 6 miles or less at a less-than-breakneck pace. I think the portion of B loop from the east crossing of FR 6 to the west crossing of same would be fine for me, if FR 6 is navigable without sugar sand for a parking spot.
