Purgatory on Earth (POE) Summer Series #1

Reviewing your behavior of the past year, you keep asking yourself why you were so thoughtless, so uncaring, and, shall we mildly say, a little bit unkind.  You know that eventually that behavior will catch up to you and there will be h... to pay.  The day is now scheduled. The first of the summer series. Time to up your courage.  You know it will be difficult.  You know you will be suffering. You know it is everything you dread. Alas, you know it must be done. For your misdeeds of the past year cannot be dismissed.  To reduce a prolonged stay in Purgatory, you can work time off by hiking in the Florida summer. It will be ugly.  There will be mosquitoes. Deer flies. Oppressive heat. Shirt soaking humidity. And this is all for your benefit.  Pay now or pay later.  Who's in?

What: 6 - 7 mile hike
When: Thursday, July 11, 2013
Meeting time and place: 8:15 a.m. McDonalds @ I-75,exit 301, one stoplight east.
Where: Withlacoochee State Forest, Croom Tract
Route: From FTA crossing of Croom Rital Rd, south to connector to Silver Lake.
What to bring: one to two quarts water, insect repellent, sunscreen, snack, and sandwich for when we take a break.  See note #1 below.

Note: #1: Even sinners such as yourself will need a reprieve after the hike, so please join us for cool watermelon, bite size pieces.

Note #2: It will be interesting to see the water level of the Withlacoochee River now and compare to levels later in the rainy season.

Excellent hike Gordy. Thank you for perfect planning, route selection and all you did to make the weather hold till completion. :) The route was excellent and as Lenny writes, the watermelon was the best way to finish. Thank you all for a such a wonderful hike and cheer.

If some wanted, they could car pool from McDonalds for the five miles to the start/finish. We should be finished between 12:00 & 1:00.
