FNST Western Corridor Hiking Series - Hike 5

Western Corridor Hiking Series  Hike 5  49th Ave. TH to Pruitt TH

This hike brings us through the final FNST area on the Cross Florida Greenway.   Hike 5 is gorgeous.  It's also a bit of a workout.  We'll hike up and down 4 sets of diggings.  Yes, there are hills in Florida, albeit man-made ones!   We'll also see the infamous Bear Tree and a memorial known as Pruitt's Stonehenge.   Possible optional tubing in Rainbow River to follow.

Wed. Nov. 20  Elizabeth Holland (Suncoast) with extra special help from Mike Mais AKA Mr. Mean :-) (Florida Crackers)

Meet: Pruitt TH  There is a sign on the highway for the turn.  It's a half mile down a gravel road.

Time: 8:30a.

Distance: Short - 6.2 miles (Ross Prairie), Long - 12.2 miles

Location:[masked], [masked]

Carpooling:  If you would like to carpool, please post as a comment

We'll meet at the Pruitt TH and shuttle to the start of the hike. We'll need to know whether you'll be hiking 6.2 miles or 12.2 miles when you arrive - to do a proper shuttle.  Be prompt.

What to Bring:--> 2 liters or quarts of water. Lunch and snacks.  The water is not a guideline. It is a requirement for this hike.  Lunch and snacks.  Sunscreen and bug spray are optional.

This was a good hike although I would have enjoyed it more without the rain. I need to come back and do it again to find all of the geocaches along the way.

This was a great hike. I only did the short version and bailed out at Ross Prairie. We were lucky the rain held off. Hopefully those who did the full hike did not get wet either. I was impressed with how well run this event was. It was well planned and very organized. It was also one of the prettiest sections of the greenway I have seen yet. Lots of climbing up and down hills from the old diggings made this a very interesting hike.

Wow what a fantastic day The hospitality was exceptional a great introduction to your group It began with my first contact with Elizabeth via phone she was so prompt returning my calls & very informative Then the day of the hike once I arrived The leader Mike was so professional I shortly realized this was very well run event unlike some of the other excursions in my life Mikes intent was safety number 1 & all to have a enjoyable hike
This was my first hike with organized group & I'm still in awe Every one was exceptionally friendly I sure felt welcomed Now looking forward to attending more events

I plan to join this hike for the 6 miles from 49th to Ross Prairie. I will be coming with 3 friends and we will do our own shuttle. Will meet you at 49th Ave. trailhead for the start of the hike.

So difficult to plan ahead but I'm in for this hike. As usual, will do longest distance available.

How long do you estimate the event will take? I work the night shift and it is 1 1/2 hours from my home?

Conservatively, not more than 6 hours for the long hike incl. the shuttles.

I would like to car pool and I would like to do the whole banana!
