Had a good time hiking around Withlacoochee River Park Friday night. Saw meteors. Enjoyed the 5.2 mile hike. The Saturday night hike to the tower was fun, too. Saw three white-tail deer Sunday morning. Thanks, Sue, for the Sunday morning breakfast. It was good to see everyone.

After we got our bearings, the camping was really fabulous. I had never been here before (my first Suncoast FTA Holiday party) and I felt like I was in the wilderness (even though I was in my teardrop camper.) The staff at With River Park was so accommodating. I will probably return again and explore the area some more (now that I know the shorter route to the tower.) Thanks for the great hikes, the delicious food and the marvelous camaraderie at the pavilion. Looking forward to more FTA adventures and hopefully hiking again with new acquaintances. I don't want to miss anyone by expressing particular thanks but all of the FTA'ers who volunteered to organize deserve to be carried on the next hike!

OK I see where to come in but based on the map that Wes provided there doesn't seem to be any restrooms/composting toilet in the Boy Scout area. Are we camping closer to what's called the "group camping" area. Such a pain to have to walk 15 minutes to restrooms. Please advise, Arlene

    December 10, 2013

    • Wes C

Arlene, the GPS coordinates you give are what I believe to be the gate we should enter for camping except for Elizabeth and the teardrop.

Ok got the location but can drive to it:-)

Jay, the pavillion is not near the Group Site. It is after the pay station in the Main Gate on the left. Don't need to go to the camp site at all if you are not camping.

Elizabeth, you might want to contact WRP again to see if you can bring your nice little Teardrop camper out to the group site with us.
    Talk to Joe or Sam.

      I'll bring my kayak, too.

Could any one who's familiar with the Boy Scout gate confirm these co-ordinates on Auton Rd N[masked],W[masked]? Or how far south on Auton from River road do you drive?

    December 11, 2013

    • Elizabeth P

There will be someone at the entrance gate to give you any information you might need. There is a $2 day parking fee...not sure if we have to pay it, but I'll be prepared.

Park map at this link shows the Boy Scout gate and Group Camping. http://www.pascocountyfl.net/DocumentCenter/Home/View/621
I deleted my earlier two comments about tent camping location since we've moved to the Boy Scout group camp site.

    December 9, 2013

    • Marilyn G

the 2nd point under Camping Regulations says "the Primitive campground is located just a short .5 mile hike from the southern most parking area." If you look at the map, it appears that the restroom is at that parking area. But I haven't been there so I don't know for sure.
