Western Corridor Hiking Series Hike 8 Mutual Mine to and around Radar Hill. This hike brings us into one of the many areas along the Western Corridor of the Florida National Scenic Trail maintained by the Suncoast Chapter. The Citrus Tract of the Withlachoochee State Forest features hills, sinks, limestone caves, hammocks and pine forests. This area is home to a dense population of red-cockaded woodpeckers. The Citrus Tract has the largest population of red-cockaded woodpeckers in peninsular Florida. There are forty-eight clusters of woodpeckers in the forest. The forest is upland sandhill scrub, oak thickets, sand pine and longleaf pine. See info and nesting map here.
We will all hike together from Mutual Mine to Stage Coach Road. The short hike will end there. The long hike will continue from there around Stage Pond along the "D" Loop to Brittle Road.
The ending point for both hikes will be at Florida Trail, 200 yards EAST of Stage Coach Cemetery, Hwy 480 Inverness, FL.
