FNST Western Corridor Hiking Series - Hike 9

Western Corridor Hiking Series  Hike 9 41 Kiosk to Nature Center to Willow St. to Croom TH

Wed. Jan. 15 - Gordy

Short hike: 3 miles (41 Kiosk loop to Chinsegut Nature Center)

Long hike: 10 miles to Croom TH

Carpooling:  If you would like to carpool, please post as a comment

From Tucker Hill we will carpool to the kiosk on the southern point on bottom of the triangle formed by US 41 and Snow Memorial Hwy (AKA CR 581/ CR 481).

FYI: At this time, on this route, the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) Western Corridor thru-hike has about 8 miles of next-to-county-road-hiking. Although in the grand scheme of things it is not that bad a walk, we will skip that road segment (we will be only 1/4 mile from where it ends), add a nature loop and then continue on the trail.

Hike: The hike will go around the three mile Chinsegut Nature Trail.  The three miles is no great shakes but nice to know about as it crosses a  prairie on a boardwalk, goes by a bird blind and a small sink hole - who knows, you  may want to get up very early some morning to show the kids/grandkids a bird blind.  We will then hike along Deer Run dirt road for a few miles before entering Perry Oldenburg Wildlife area.  From Perry O we will take the trail that connects to Croom  A loop and then the mile south to Tucker Hill Fire Tower.

What to Bring:--> 2 liters or quarts of water. Lunch and snacks. The water is not a guideline.  It is a requirement for this hike.  Snacks and Lunch.  Sunscreen is optional.

The meeting point is the fire tower at Tucker Hill on Croom Rital Rd. See the map link by the hike title near the top of this page. Study the map and plan your route ahead of time because it can be tricky finding it if you are not familiar with the area.
