Intro: Hiking with a Pace!

Ever wonder about walking at a pace?  When you see "22 minute miles" in a hike description, do you have a good idea how it feels to walk at that pace?  Do you know what your comfortable walking pace is?

We ask everyone who wants to attend to go for a couple of walks of a mile or more beforehand to gauge his or her comfortable walking pace.  You can do this in a variety of ways - from using a GPS, pedometer or smartphone app to using nothing but a watch.
1) Low tech:  Go to a local school track and walk a mile.  How many minutes was that on your watch?  :-)  You can go anyplace where the distance is known - and simply do the math.  Example: If it took me 28 minutes to walk the paved loop (1.25 miles) at Lettuce Lake once - 28 minutes /(divided by) 1.25 miles = 22.4 minutes per mile.
2) Gadgets like pedometers and GPS units will do it all for you. There are many Smartphone apps. We like Runkeeper.  It's free :-)

Come out to Lettuce Lake Park and learn about pacing and how you can use it to increase your cardiovascular fitness.

Awesome day, I become a better hiker everytime I hike with Elizabeth. And the Runkeeper on the phone is very cool. Thanks for a great morning with a great group of hikers.

This is my first walk with the group. I want to make sure I find you. Are we meeting just in that parking lot that you mentioned? Who is the organizer of this event?

    • treehouseyoga

Yes, we are meeting in the parking lot that is listed. Vickey and I are the 'hosts'.

I'm glad to see this starting up because I have had many requests from hikers who cannot make our Monday hikes in LLP to have something on Saturday.

Hi Cheryl - this is a one time thing, not a re-occuring event.

Sorry, I didn't read it right. But I do get requests all the time for something at LLP on Saturdays.

It really helped me when I started using Runkeeper, so now I can tell what my approximate pace is while hiking which is really helpful. Sorry I can't be part of this, but it sounds like fun!
