Monastic Hike

Monastic Hike (Limit - 12 people)

Experience the sounds of the woods.  There is plenty to hear out there, if we decide to listen.

Take some time to unplug.

Remember last year's Luddite hike?  This is that and more - no gizmos AND quiet.  We'll leave our gizmos (phones, GPS units, pedometers, cameras, etc.) in our cars and hike in silence

We'll hike the Croom A Loop, stopping at the top of the big hill for 15-20 minutes.

At the end of the hike, we will have lunch and social time at the picnic tables.

Bring water (minimum of 1.5 liters - it's getting warmer out) and a light snack.   Bring a lunch to keep in the car.

Croom A Loop is 8 miles.

Please do not sign up for this hike if you don't want to walk in silence.

A most unusual hike. Good pace and complete silence for eight miles. Saw a swallow tailed kite. Had a harem of ten women, I was the solo guy. Thanks to treehouse and her bevy of girls. I really appreciated it. Marty

Actually Marty, better I wasn't there because I am sure I couldn't have kept my trap shut and would have gotten us both FIRED!

Great hike. Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome on my first of hopefully many FTA hikes. Can't seem to join via my phone and my home computer is not working so may need to print it out and send in the old fashion way :)

Why have a limit of only 12 hikers? The waiting list is longer than that.

That's the beauty of these hikes, if you can be quick enough to get on the list. The beauty of the woods can't be enjoyed in totality with constant chatter in the background. Hopefully there will be many more of these.

Croom is one of my favorite places. I may go there just to hang out now that I think of it.

Ceci - I wish you had stayed on this. There are hills, but I think you can do it.

I wasn't sure I could handle it. My back went out a week ago and I'm pampering it a little. Since there was a waiting list I wanted to make sure someone else had a chance. Thx for the vote of confidence. I hope I get another crack at it.

There are a lot in waiting on this hike. Sounds like there needs to be a part #2 or at least another group.

After this hike filled so quickly, I sent out a message to several other leaders asking if anyone wanted to lead another hike on the same day. No takers.

8 mi. is the top of my range. Will there be much bushwhacking, or mostly on even paths? A lot of uphill?

What is the distance of the hike?

when I hike with my young students, they are asked to be quiet. If they see something interesting, they are requested to point. I can't go so enjoy! FYI
