We're gonna have another FUN weekend at Pott's!

• There will be so much fun and work????? you'll have to be there to believe it. I've got the permits and as I'm writing this the Road Kill is starting to fill my freezer. I checked with a few folks who always make things special, besides being strong enough to REALLY help. The date they chose is Oct. 31 'till nov.2. NOW you all must appreciate the fact that being Nov. 1st is my birthday I've cancelled all parties, festivals and parades that were going to be given in my HONOR. I know this is way early but the excuse of not knowing in time is NOT an option! In fact there could be some scary consequences if THAT word gets around.

One last comment about Pott's this year. I just unwrapped the left over REWARD gifts and those of you who didn't come really missed out. I'll save them for next year and keep adding to the wonderful pile of treasures. Come next year, ask those who were there the rewards by themselves make it worth it!!!!!

Everyone one of the Pott's work days have been fun and lot's of work done But this last one was so very special. Getting feet frozen didn't keep the boardwalk crew from doing a great job and very cold winds kept the trail crew moving along and finishing with fantastic results. Having Justin there with the brush cutter really worked out great.
The Road Kill supper seemed to go over good with the exception of SOME not wanting to partake of my Birthday cake. I was honored to hand out thank you gifts to workers and the yo,yo's seem to bring out the show off in some. The one work I have doubts about is of course Tom Hammond, beauty berry picking was not on the job list, but he sure did it well. Tracy's hike was a great success although screaming from fright and rolling on the ground laughing kind of contradicted each other. Again I thank everyone who came out and I must tell you again It was a favorite birthday for me in all ways. Where I wanted to be with people I hold so very dear.

A truly magical weekend was had by all. A hearty thanks to Linda Dawson for being and excellent host and ordering up splendid weather and a delicious feast of roadkill and all of its condiments and side dishes. Tracy Hyde regaled the work weekend faithful with ghoulish tales of woodland spirits and engineered an excellent night hike complete with dark shadows and fright night adventure. Charlie blessed the huddled masses with two nights of warming fires that were both picturesque and comforting. We hiked, worked on the trail and began construction of bridge over "not so troubled" waters...with Allen, Ted and Ralph at the helm, this bridge will no doubt provide safe passage to hikers for decades to come. We had an excellent time sharing equal amounts of toil and laughter-sometimes simultaneously; Those that missed it, you must join us on the next one, those that shared in this memorable RoadKill Potts weekend...it was a pleasure seeing/meeting you all. Hike safe, hike often...

The link above says "Hooty Point" but Wes' map doesn't show a road to the river camp. Is that the entrance we are using?

      October 31

    • Wes C

Yes. There's a trailhead parking lot at 2988 N Hooty Point, Inverness, FL but use the gate combo to get through the gate and follow the road until it dead ends into an open field next to the Withlacoochee River. You can see the field and part of the road to it on Google's satellite view.

If I have to bribe you with Saturday Rolls well okay.Let me know, I won't pout much. I think Tracy might be getting even more worried about the hikes and the night BUT GOOD GUYS always win and I do have the silver bullets.

Can you pick it up at Pott's Sunday or shall I get it back to my place?Wish you could come Saturday. We mowed this past week and now need the tractor for moving the poles in Place. October 24

I have packed Tracy's bag of balls and sticks for him to lead a game of croquet. Also, bringing Kayaks for a paddle up the river to Gum slough.

    October 20

    • Lenny C.

Linda, maybe you should change the name of your event to Pott's Hard Labor Camp weekend!! haha!

      2 · October 24

    • linda d.

Ya Think??? Dean's cooking would still win out I bet.

      October 24

  • linda d.

Okay everyone here's a real Kicker. While out searching everywhere for ?????to come on Tracy's hike I found out we really need to do some WORK on Friday and Saturday. Seems we have 4 20ft, power poles to get across the work spot with the tractor of course and get them set inn place and put down decking. What this means that besides having a perfectly fun time I really really need some help with some muscle and no aversion to getting they're feet wet.If anyone is able to come for any length of time it would be very much appreciated. Building boardwalks has never been in my job description but it is now and your help is really needed.

    1 · October 17

  • linda d.

Attention Pott's people! Tracy's worried. He's leading the night hike an d demanding silver bullets and crosses. He's getting a little SCARED!!!
The work to be done is scheduled and will get done but after that everyone should be on alert. The roadkill stew is in the freezer and Dean's added his special touch again. The problem is the Haunts have invited themselves to the hike and have demanded to be fed. This may be a weekend to go down in the history of Pott's.

And HEY don't forget barter rocks.( not too be gathered on the sacred grounds we're camping on

    3 · October 9

    • Tracy H.

Scared? I'm horrified as I know what lurks in those woods at Potts on Halloween weekend. Still, we must soldier on! First we must keep Dean alive and the road kill secure at all costs. After we are fueled by this unbelievable feast we will be ready for the night hike. Night hike mission: #1 Complete 2.5 to 3 miles in the dark as we evade Ghosts, Goblins and Vampires. #2 return to camp with 75 % retention. 25% loss is is highly expected and anticipated. Loss could be less if we hike in force. We will have strength in numbers. All volunteers are highly requested by your fellow hikers.

    Just realized I have a conflict..hate to cancel but I gotta :(

    October 9

  • linda d.

Catherine you really need to come out even if you have to break a few rules. The roadkill is in the freezer the prize basket is ALMOST FULL although a few changes are coming that way and if there's anyway to make the DARK!!!! AND not turn back you'll get an even better treat.

    September 19

    • Catherine

This year has not been a good one for camping or hiking, too many obligations. Maybe next year will be better. In the meanwhile I shall live vicariously though the group.

      September 21

  • linda d.

Everybody can relax now! Dean called not only will we have ROADKILL but now we'll have RANCHKILL too! The good stuff just keeps coming in. I'm not sure we'll have time for any work at all!!!!!

    2 · August 21

    • linda d.

I'll put it on the porch, but I don't have a cooler so BE very careful when you open it!

      September 13

    • Catherine

I am trying to work a way to go and your road kill updates me even more determined. Fingers crossed.

      September 19

  • linda d.

My computer has sen down for a LONG time, so I
can't even start to describe the STUFF in my freezer. Dean's even getting concerned! That BAD NIGHT before the work day could really have some dire consequences! As Skip once said Be aware and alert at all times the woods at Pott's AND the River trail could be a real concern!!!

Those woods are full of Goblins especially on Halloween. I think a Goblin Search Night Hike is mandatory, for those who are not SCARED!

      3 · September 2

    • JUSTIN S.

I think orange and green glow sticks would be fitting for the hike.

      1 · September 2

  • linda d.

Okay I have to confess for all you guys (not mentioning names)
older, younger, stronger, more energy BUT maybe not wiser. After all the rain,we've had some power poles donated and we will be extending a couple of bridges. That being said everyone can pick their preferred job and or tool. Of course you can also prefer to sit and supervise but only if I'm allowed to put grey tape across your mouth!!!

This was a "Very Cool Event" last year, was it Nov? It is primitive, so bring your own water, solar shower, and be prepared for mosquitoes.
