FTA Thanksgiving Weekend! A bit of Work, Fun, Food, in the great outdoors!

Let us give thanks!

And let's give back while we enjoy the great outdoors..

We will be camping at the multi use equestrian area. There is potable water on site and restrooms, showers 0.15 mile in the family campground. A special thanks goes out to Dale Meyer for helping facilitate this arrangement.

FROM JAY GOULD

Hi Everyone,
Lenny and I hiked the trail the morning of Nov 10 to scout out the "work" activity. The 2nd section of the 6.2 mile loop is closed, but about 3.2 miles on the first loop is open so we'll lop, pick up trash, and clean that section.

There's a short section of mud, but you can get past it without getting your feet wet. The trail is in good shape so the lopping is more to enhance than to restore the trail.

We will gather around 9:00 on Saturday at the pavilion parking lot and car pool to the trail head, which is about a 5 - 7 minute ride.

Trail workers bring your loppers / trimmers... Jay

Saturday  group lunch at the pavilion. Kevin Dodd , Wes Calhoun, Sue Bunge, and Cathy Muckler are in charge of turkey and lunch! Potluck sides.. If you can, please bring your own cutlery, plate, cup.

For our Saturday lunch, we are asking for a $6.00 per person donation...feel free to donate more to SUPPORT OUR TRAIL MAINTENANCE EFFORTS..

FTA Chapter business meeting to follow!

Afternoon....on your own paddling, hiking, cycling, sun, fun, and fellowship! (we can hike on the equestrian trails in the park)

Traditional Sunday breakfast... Sue is bringing the eggs, hash browns and bread and butter!

At the trail head this morning 11/10 with Jay Gould..Maybe it was the bull that tore up the bridge that resulted in part of the loop being closed....

Apologies, couldn't pick up my loppers in time, so I'll be without. Can I still be helpful in the morning or should I just come a little later for grub?

Thank you, everyone for a wonderful event, food & companionship. I appreciate the kindness & attention you showed to Shayla. She said she wants to spend more time w/you. Beth, thanks for the screaming monkey. Of course I'm in the debt of all the folks who came to my rescue--again. When robots become available, I'm getting one to remind me to keep track of my keys. Carol, I found an orange camp chair & will bring it to the Withlacoochee.

I am glad Shayla was comfortable with us. It is a HUGE stretch for many kids to go into the unfamiliar outdoors, with a bunch of older folks who they do not know.... KUDOS to her...and you......

As always, good old and new friends share feast, trail beautification, and spledid starry nights... Special thanks to our executive officers for planning and implementing such a fun weekend and a special THANKS to Wes for going above and beyond (county boundaries) to secure plenty of heated bird for the faithful... A wonderful paddling afternoon was also had by a small group of us led by Wes and Wild Bill...thank you all for the tales, head scratching pontifications, entertaining the nightime friendly "feeling no pain" ranger, and of course, kinship and laughter galore....

Great comrade with the work crew faithful on a beautiful weather weekend. It was well hosted by our executive committee and well attended by old and new friends. Breathtaking starry nights under the velvet skies...fires blazing with the multitude seated around sharing anecdotal factoids which often leads to marvelous spinning of tales...

My bad. I left a red sports authority camp chair by the fire ring. It was under 7 bucks, so whomever wants it may keep it. I have others. Thanks for the laughs and conversation everyone!

I deleted some comments from people who RSVP'd and then changed to not going. I hope I did not push a wrong button somewhere.... Hope everyone with kayaks can figure it out....plenty of time to discuss before Sunday... see you soon. I recall there was discussion about using Canoe Outpost as a launch site alternative to the park launch....

Are you in the equestrian site?

      November 13

  • Lenny C.

Let's see if we can hit 100 comments!
1.Don't forget your camp chair as there are no benches where we are camping.
    2. Ranger Chris wants us to be aware that equestrian trailers, vehicles , and horses will be there as well...
    3. He also reminded me that there are no fire rings and that campfires must be above ground...so I am bringing the Chew family backyard campfire rig which is composed of a steel washtub with bricks to keep it off the ground so it does not scorch the yard.... DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ONE OF THOSE BACKYARD ABOVE GROUND FIRE PITS THAT THEY CAN BRING??

    November 11

    • Beth A.

I have one that I can bring

      1 · November 13

I prefer dark meat and ARL, likes white but we will be unable to eat a whole turkey by ourselves unless it is very small. Does this help you solve your conundrum. What beer do you recommend with turkey? M!
