I have since added my AquaMira drops, rain pants (possibly for warmth, since I don't think its going to rain), warm gloves, map & small compass, camera, bandana, Advil, stove & fuel & pot & spoon. I also have my 4 days of food and some water (20 oz. & 32 oz. bottles - filled) Total weight is now a whopping 19.8 lbs.

I might leave my deoderant at home - lighten the load! Also maybe the stove & go cold food.

Regarding tent safety, I found this.
Archive 1843 The Southern Green Swamp

It was as black as pitch at the dead hour of the night. They had been lying awake in there tent ever since the first howl of mortal terror. They lay quiet and still, trying to convince themselves it was just a wild boar or coyotes. All in vain; because death , in approaching them had stalked with its black shadow and enveloped the victims. I don't know about the rest of you but I feel much safer just knowing Amanda will be bringing : The Little Pink Knife. .
Gerry you may want to bring the coon skin cap. We can barter with any angry hunters if needed.

    2 · November 19, 2012

    • Gerry

think I will bring my slingshot, bag me a coon, BBQ him up.( make a hat while I am at it)....hunters will smell that and will come from miles around to rejoice and bring gifts of rye whiskey and moonshine :)

      November 20, 2012

    • Tracy Hyde

      That's the spirit.

      November 20, 2012

  • Tom

I hope it was not me snorting! Stay safe in your tent. Nothing bad can happen to you inside the tent!

    November 19, 2012

    • Tom

I did not feel safe in my hammock. The first night's dream a rope broke and I feel on cypress points, second night I was a back scratcher for a bear.

      November 20, 2012

    • Ryan Garner

I have not had a problem with my hammock yet. But i have only gone on a handful of camps beaches of school and work.

      November 20, 2012

  • Tracy Hyde

Last December at trial ford camp in the middle of the night we witnessed something very very large, loud, scary and almost creature like. Two of us were forced out of our tents. We were not allowed to discuss to anyone about what happened on that night in the Green Swamp. However, I feel the people that are on this trip have the right to know. I will discuss this to only those on the trip that want to know as we make our way to camp. There is no need to be concerned. This is going to be a great adventure and Kevin is correct, the weather is going to be sweet!

Might need rip stop material for the pants. Risk of bursting a seam is high when making fast exit.

    November 16, 2012

I can shuttle 3 people. Email me if you need a shuttle. I am not going on the hike so if you don't contact/respond I won't be at the site to shuttle. contact info: [masked]

I have 3 people so I am full now.

      October 30, 2012

    • Lenny Chew

nice of you to help Dale!

      November 13, 2012

  • Marcie Clutter

Thanks for letting me know you have to be dropped off Tracy!

    October 31, 2012

  • Tracy Hyde

Marcie, I may be wrong but I do not think there is a safe place to leave a car at the trailhead at Rock Ridge Rd. I think it is best to be dropped off and hike back to your car at Richloam.

    October 30, 2012

  • Marcie Clutter

I would be able to be part of a shuttle. I can take 3 people besides myself in my truck. One person would ride in the front and 2 people would be in the back end of the truck with the backpacks, sitting on foam pads. Please contact me about getting the shuttle going.

    October 30, 2012

  • James Couture

    I would like a shuttle Dale ,
thanks for the offer. I'm not sure if they have enough people to shuttle everyone.

    October 30, 2012

    • Dale Mulert

I have 3 people and I drive a VW Golf/Passat so it's pretty tight. If the other are okay with squeezing in the back i might be able to add you but I can't promise that will work. Srry

Brian, I went on a 3 week kayak trip, and was told we had plenty of water sources for the whole trip. Stupid me...they meant the river. I was fortunate to have the graciousness of all in the party to let me use their water filters. I know have my own (picked the one that I thought gave me the best tasting water and the best filter incase I ever had the chance to go overseas) and I have no trouble sharing the used of mine if you don't get one of your own before the trip.

I ended up getting the MSR Airspring with ceramic filter. I chose that one because of it's ease to clean out in the field, no parts to loose and I can hook it right to my nalgene or my MSR Bladder & pumps quickly Only con is it's weight. I do always carry a couple of collapsible bottles to fill for camp use. I've tried the steripens, but don't have enough confidence in those yet because there is so much room for error if not used properly. But if you can get to try the other types, you will have the fortune of picking out what works best for you.

Don't feel like your putting me out thou...I'll just let you do all the pumping :-) Being from Michigan where there was a river or non-potable water always nearby, I always filtered with my kerchief and boiled the water. But the water does taste so much better coming from my filter.

      October 29, 2012

  • Brian Lloyd

Hi Kevin, I will be coming without Sandy, she is still having foot problems. Any advice on water filtration equipment will be appreciated. I dont have filtration equipment.

    October 28, 2012

    • kevin

hi brian great that your coming. im using aquamira drops there lit weight and easy to use. they do nothing for the taste but if your using it to cook boiling the water will make it taste better. and you can always flavor it with something.
