Dear Florida Trail Association Chapter Members, 

 

The US Forest Service is co-hosting, with the Florida Outdoor Recreation Coalition (FLORC), a symposium to celebrate the success story of Florida’s very own National Scenic Trail.

 

The concept of a trail stretching the length of Florida was first implemented by Jim Kern in the 1960s. This vision became a greater reality in 1983 when US Congress designated the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) as one of the eleven national trails. Through the dedicated work of countless volunteers and land management agencies the FNST has grown to over 1000 designated miles. .

 

To celebrate the hard work of all involved in making this dream a reality we want you to mark your calendars and plan to attend this special event.  An active program of speakers will take you through the past, present, and future of the FNST.  Also the first State of Trail Report will be unveiled. So take note:

 

·         WhatFlorida National Trail Symposium – “The Success of the FNST”

·        WhenSeptember 22, 2012 from 8:30 – 12:00 noon

·        WhereCentral Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Sanford, Florida

·         Who: Volunteers, Land Managers, Outdoor Media, Outdoor Enthusiasts

·        HowPre-registration through www.FLORC.org (beginning July 15)

·         CostFree and a continental breakfast and lunch provided.  The first 100

            registrants will receive a special FNST tote.
