The first hike of the Purgatory On Earth (POE) Summer Series is now in the books.
The hike started on Croom-Rital Road, just west of Nobleton Road. The route went south and eventually included both the low water and high water trails. Although the Withlacoochee River, with its northbound flow, is prone to flooding over the trail, that was not the case - yet. The high water marks on the pilings under I-75 were not threatened with being surpassed.
The 19 hikers were able to take absolution on many of their sins from the past 12 months. The stains of sin on their souls being transferred to stains of sweat on their shirts. And, believe me, there were some mighty drenched shirts. One hiker, knowing the power of this hike, just to make sure his sins were absolved, intentionally hiked the whole way with a stone in his shoe. That's whats it's all about, folks. Taking responsibility for your misdeeds. It doesn't get much better than that. As we know, evil begets evil; we must atone for past indiscretions. If you weren't there, you know you should have been. Join us at the next POE Summer Hike, announcement soon to be posted on meetup.
After the hike and the cleansing our souls, we had cool watermelon to salve the spirits.
Note: If the sincerity of any of the hikers was dubious, they await their own penance in two days - chigger bites. Time will tell.
