Wonder Club: Playing God - Ethics of Biogenetic Engineering

Wonder Club is the Sunday Assembly's monthly philosophy discussion group! The subject for this month is the ethics of biogenetic engineering. Think "Gattaca" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/). To what extent is genetic engineering ethical? How will this change as technology advances? Are there some kinds of engineering that will never be ethical?

For more detailed scrutiny of this question, I humbly request that attendees take 10 minutes to read the following 5 page article by Erik Parens - "The Goodness of Fragility: On the Prospect of Genetic Technologies Aimed at the Enhancement of Human Capacities". The article can be found (open access) at the following URL:

Another recommended resource for this discussion will be the perspective of Jim Watson (of Watson and Crick fame). Take a listen while being productive around your home!

Greetings All, just a quick note to say that wonder club is at 7:30pm tonight. I hope everyone is jazzed about the topic for this evening. No prior reading is necessary, but an engaged conversation is anticipated. See you all there =)

This is a great topic but I will be on a Girl Scout trip that weekend and can't make it. :(

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
