Cavendish Pavilion to Barden Tower, via the Strid (5 miles)

  • July 13, 2014 · 9:30 AM

A walk from Cavendish Pavilion, a large restaurant by the River Wharfe with parking, a shop and toilet facilities, to Barden Tower, where doorstep sandwiches and other refreshments are available. There is a charge of £7.00 per car, so I would suggest a car share for this walk.

The walk out is a path through the woods and the return is back along side the river via the Strid.

Barden Tower is up a very steep road, though if you can wait until we get back to Cavendish Pavilion, the meals are worth it.

Anyone who wishes to also view the ruins of Bolton Priory, the walk there and back is only one and a half miles circular.

Could you tell me, are these walks suitable for bringing toddlers 19 month old with push chair? I don't want to slow the group down as my little one likes to walk with us but we often need to pug him in to his chair to "get on":))) cheers:)))

Hi, I'm interested in going, but not sure if I'm free that day yet. How is ok to decide nearer the date? Also, is it possible to bring my partner along or does he have to become a member too? Thanks!

    June 9

    • Penny

Hi Nat - yes you can decide as close as you wish there is nothing to 'book' so as long as I have numbers that morning it is fine. it is no problem at all to bring your partner just reply as a +1 when you RSVP - the more the merrier - Penny

This walk was created by the previous organiser (many thanks Graham) and it looks really nice so will still be taking place. I am not familiar with the route but have looked it up and it looks very simple so hope we can work it out between ourselves - I will bring all the information I have.
Graham also pointed out the excessive parking charges so as I am coming from Heckmondwike if anybody needs a lift then please let me know and we can 'car-share'.

Sorry I cannot make the Cavendish walk, we are away for the weekend - I do it regularly as we are so close by, enjoy!

I hate to be a party-pooper, but the A59 will be closed that day from 5.00am until 3.00pm, because of the pesky Tour de France - and I suspect the chances of getting parked will also be zero. I'm actually due to be at an event elsewhere in North Yorkshire and am having to go and spend the Saturday night with relatives, as I shall be unable to get out from my own home on the Sunday morning!

Thanks Helen. I've changed the date to Sunday 13th July so everyone will need to check if they are available for that date and re-RSVP as necessary.
