Weekend trip to the Isle of Wight

Well a few people have been asking about this so please join us on the inaugural 'what could possibly go wrong' Sunny Walkers weekend trip!

We are going to the Isle of Wight:

I can tell you from first hand experience that the walking is brilliant here. We will be staying close to a ridge that runs pretty much the whole way along the island giving you 360 degree views of the whole island and over to England. My favourite is to walk the ridge in the morning and walk back along the beach in the afternoon. There will be swimming available for any of you lunatic wild swimmers!

The Isle of Wight has a rich history and a reputation for being... eccentric! They definitely do things their own way here. It is famous for sailing and, believe it or not, the British missile program (which ended, in classic British fashion, in 'heroic failure') It's a brilliant, interesting and beautiful place!

Ok the details!

We'll be staying at a YHA hostel which are good, clean and cheap. We'll be staying in single sex dorms. You can bring your own booze; they will supply all meals at minimal cost and there's usually a lounge for reading and exciting games of Jenga.

Guys I don't make any money out of this - I do it purely for the warmth and love that I get from Stuart. I am kind of 'facilitating' this weekend and trying to organise things but you're completely free to make your own travel and food arrangements, etc. if you want to.

• A bed in a dorm is £20 / night so £40 for the weekend.

• A return ticket from London Waterloo to Cowes (including the ferry) is just under £60. I *may* rent a minivan and I think there's at least one car going for car-sharing. Unless you're in a car, we'll need to get a taxi from Cowes to the hostel so about £10 each return or something.

• Food is around £5 / meal from the hostel (breakfast, dinner and packed lunch). We'll probably have Saturday dinner in the nearby pub. This being a hostel you can almost definitely cook your own food if that's what you'd like to do as well.

So figure about £130 or so for the whole weekend including accommodation, transport and food.

I'll organise two walks: one on Saturday and then a shorter one on Sunday. I figure we'll aim to be back in Cowes early afternoon, maybe have a look around town for an hour or so and then head back to London, aiming to be back around 5pm to 6pm.

The places are going to be pretty limited on this one - I'd like to keep it to about 10 or 12 people.

I'll probably take Friday off and go down early. Anyone is free to join me if you want to get an extra day.

I need to pay upfront to reserve the beds so I need to get £40 to reserve your place (and obviously this pays for your accommodation). The easiest would be to transfer the money to me:

It's going to be a fun trip guys, hope to see you there!

Thanks Maria for the information :-), but the description said that James will book the beds. So I thought it's easier for me to transfer the money to him.

Hi guys, I am going to book the return ticket from Waterloo to Cowes, Southwesttrain shows two Cowes station ( Cowes West and East). Anyone know which one should we book? I assume we are leaving around 6pm on Friday(25 April) and coming back to London around 5-6pm on Sunday (27 April). Once we figure out which Cowes station, we can probably book outbound ticket at specific time on Friday so that we can travel together.
