Hike Description:

We will enter the Muir Woods through the main entrance (they open the kiosk at 9am, and it's ok to walk in for free at 8.30am)
Route
, ben johnson trail, dipsea trail, this will get us from 200 feet to 1350feet, where we have a view of the city, east bay, ocean if we have no fog, we will then descend on dipsea trail, steep ravine trail to Hwy 1, cross over Hwy 1 and take Rocky Point Road (we might encouter a car on this road) down to steep ravine cabins and rocky point beach,
After a break we will retrace out steps up rocky point road, cross hwy 1 and take steep ravine trail to the pantoll ranger station going from 0 feet to about 1530 feet, from pantoll ranger station we take alpine trail and bootjack trail back to the muir woods and follow the paved trail to the exit / entrance

There is a gift shop, coffee shop on the left before we exit the park, I will sure stop there.

****** We will encounter a good amount of stairs *****
****** going up and down*********

***There is a 10 foot LADDER ****
***to climb on Steep Ravine Trail***
*** *

Don't forget to bring WATER, snacks and lunch

WEATHER: Can be from sunny and warm to chilly and foggy. I estimate that about 75 % of the hike will be under the cover of trees.
Depending on the fog level it can be very chilly along some parts of the trail and at the beach, on the way back it will be most likely warm entering the Muir Woods.

CARPOOLS:
Fewer cars at the trailhead is always happiness. Meetup does not organize carpools; however we are a friendly group with lots of folks who are interested in sharing rides. If you'd like to offer a ride, please leave a comment in your RSVP letting folks know where you're coming from and how many spaces there are. If you'd like to ride as a passenger, it is YOUR JOB to check the website RSVP list and contact any of the nice people offering a ride to see if they still have a space for you. If you're a passenger and your plans change, please be sure to let the driver know.

Directions

http://maps.google.co...

Once you click the above link the "B" is at the entrance to the parking lot and you can enter your address on the left into "A" and get driving directions.

Note. There is no sign for camp east wood road, that is the parking lot for the muir woods

Note: Once you leave Hwy 101 the drive will be slower with lot's of curves, I find it easier to take Panoramic Hwy and take Muir Woods road down to the park versus taking Hyw 1 and coming to the park from the south.
Just allow some extra time for the drive.

You can check out the directions on the Muir Woods website

Summary: First, a nice, easy, and chill stroll through sleeping giant trees and meadows of gold. At the end of the trail, sea creatures and an endless ocean of possibilities. Return by following a trickling stream thru the enchanted forest once again. Once at Muir Woods, marvel at all the camera-ladened tourists gawking upwards. :) We were a merry band of Boy Scouts, it was a fun time!

Chris J. had picked a very interesting and scenic route which also provided a good workout. He did a good job of keeping track of the large group (including laggards).
