Distance around 15-16

Elevation gain around[masked] estimate, could be more

Difficulty,   Advanced

Speed fast 3-3.5 mph

Meetup Fee $1

Parking ?? don't know any good spots, best to take BART for this hike,  **start and end point are not the same on this hike,** you have to get back to your car on your own, it's 1-2 miles

-Once the Rsvp is open you have to add to the waitlist and answer the question which comes up. I will add you in as long as the question has been answered and there is still room.

*Hiking Speed** usually averages around 3-3.5 mph, be prepared for that.

* There will be plenty of uphill and downhill,  steep, stairs etc....on this hike

We are going up / down 3 pretty staircases of the City and will see some of the Hearts placed in the City a few years ago, a couple of them are at Union Sqaure and at least one more at the Lyons street stairs. We visit the cable car barn / museum (free) see how the cable cars work,

Link to pic's from last year, I changed the route slightly to include a trip to the beach / coast, (took out lovers lane, pet cemetary)

Planned Route

Meet at pier 7, the wooden pier with lots of benches and lamps, hike along Embarcadero , take greenwich street, head up the stairs to coit tower, south on telegraph hill, down the filbert stairs, back to embarcadero, walk through fishermans wharf, fort mason, along marina, turn left towards the old  exploratorium building, go up lyons street and steps,  inspiration point, down to mountain lake, immigrant point overlook, head down the trail to Battery Crosby  and possible have lunch at the beach there, (think it's Marshal beach), follow the trail back up, pass by at the golden gate bridge, down to crissy field and continue back via marina, fort mason, up hyde street,  lombard street, continue on hyde street, left on washington, short visit at the cable car barn (if you haven't been there, you will see how it all happens with the cable cars, the motors for the cables are there and the cables go out from there), up mason street, left on california, down powell to union square the end point of the hike, BART will be close by.

I will send out my phone number to all on the yes rsvp on Friday night

Important things to know

It will be your resposibility to keep up with the group and pay attention where we are going. We will be going through areas with high foot traffic and it is almost impossible to keep track of everyone in that area, I will do my best though,

**** we will be using sidewalks, trails, maybe alongside a road,

you have to watch out for traffic,**cars** bicycles... etc.***

**************************************************

***bring $ 2 in cash in case you decide to bail out and catch a bus, streetcar, etc.

***bring a map if you are not familiar with the city, in case you get separated, you can always catch a bus, streetcar etc, or retreat your steps .

**********************************************************

waiver (I bring a copy / sign in sheet

Parking, I have not recommendations, I recommend BART, Cal train etc.

Parking can be expensive.

Weather, we are talking City, expect the worst, **foggy , chilly, drizzle,  windy....** and hope for the best , maybe some sun , dress accordingly.

Meeting point I will have a green back pack and most likely a blue t shirt and shorts on.

At the start of Pier***7****, just keep walking towards fishermens wharf from the ferry building, most buildings have a pier number on them. Pier 7 is a long pier with a wooden walkway, lots of lamp posts and benches further out on the pier. the link below should give you the google street view of it.

Great hike. I always enjoy wandering around the city with fellow hikers. Thanks Chris! After we left you some of us went for a nice beer or two at the ferry building.

The lack of parking near the "trailhead" makes this hard for us Peninsula folks. FWIW, I've had good luck starting SF hikes at Fort Mason where there's usually plenty of free parking at the Marina.

I know about that parking spot, but sometimes I just like to park my car and Bart in for a hike, you could easily park at Daily City or other penn. bart stations.
