4 nights Death Valley Camping (Tuesday night through Friday night)
2 intermediate to advanced hikes

Organized by Chris J.

Last Year we had a great time camping and hiking at Death Valley

Fees: $15 (breakdown as follows: $3 meetup / organizing fee, $ 12 for campsite)
Refund: Depending on attendance there will be most likely a partial refund for the camsite fee.
The Fee will be the same if you stay one night or 4 nights
I will ask you to send me a check for $15 (you will receive my address via e-mail)

Park Entrance FEE $ 20 per car, unless you have a valid NP pass.

tongueYou don't have to be on my Schedule, you can arrive earlier, later, you can leave earlier or later.tongue

Tuesday: I will be leaving very early for Death Valley, maybe stop for a hike at the waterfalls on the
way in.

Wednesday: Explore Death Valley, by car and short hike (s) Destinations TBA, depens on the group.

Thursday: leave campsite around 8am for the hike at Red Wall Canyon

Friday: leave campsite around 8am for the hike up Rose Peak (Weather permitting)

Saturday: pack up and leave at your convinence Or take over a campsite and stay
as many days longer as you like

I expect that most members will arrive on Wednesday evening / night, I am driving down on Tuesday in order to secure us the nice campsites with bench and firepits, last year it was no problem to get the sites, the camp ground is fairly big, but about 70-80% are a spot in a hard packed dirt parking lot, Important things you need to kow

*** You will need to add to the waitlist and answer my questions

*** the hikes are intermediate to advanced level, depending on your hiking level

*** once approved for the hikes I will send you my address for the check

*** I may have some spots for members who don't want to join the hikes

***WEATHER*** If the weather forecast is really bad crying I may cancell on short notice with a full refund
(I won't cash any checks until after thanksgiving.

***CANCELLATION DEADLINE Monday Nov. 22nd by 6pm (full refund)

*** Cell phones NO RECEPTION (at least last year)

*** Temperatures in the Valley should range from 40's at night to mid 70's at daytime

*** Wild rose peak hike will be going up to 9046 feet, expect some cold temp's, last year the hike to
Telescope peak was very chilly, be prepared, gloves, warm hat etc.

**SAND, the campground will be in the sand dunes area, the fine sand will make it's way into your tent
bags, clothing etc. pic of campground

*** Wind, could get windy at nights, make sure to stake down the tent really good.

***SHOWERS smileare avail. for $ 5-6 at the lodge next to the campground (fee included pool usage)

***Store located next to the campground , sells your basic grocery items, ***GAS STATIONS one is right next to the store, however it had only ONE GRADE of Gas, I think it was
either mid grade or the lowest, price wise it wasn't really bad.
Another gas station is at Furnance Creek (close to an hr drive) they may have all grades, that one
was expensive.
***Gas, I recommend you fill up on 395 near Ridecrest (last year we stopped for gas in Olancha
(JCT 190 /395 but you never know if it still there.

***Firewood, wink we probably need plenty of it, the stores sells it, but more expensive, if you have room
you may want to bring some. DIRECTIONS: google link below.

coolDeath Valley is approx. 500 miles and 10 hrs drive time from the Bay Area cool(Walnut Creek)

My hiking plans are

First hikebiggrin on Thursday will be Red Wall Canyon

This will be all off trail hiking , think river wash, gravel, rocks etc.

Second hike biggrinon Friday will be Rose Peak

Death Valley weather

I guess we want to carpool as much as possible it's a long drive, and it helps to share the cost for gas.

I can take 1 (you would park in my covered parking spot, if we meet at my place)

Tents (4 per site) 8 campers, 2 cars

I can share my tent, I have shared my tent on the 2 Yosemite camping trips this year with women
My tent is for 5-6 ppl and for 2 or 3 there is plenty of room, you can probably fit almost 3 queen airbeds in there.

What an awesome trip. This is the most photos I've taken on a trip. Well worth the 9-10 hrs. ride. As always great group of hikers. Thanks again Chris for organizing.

Great group of hikers and tough campers, after some milder (but tent rattling windy) nights on Tuesday and Wednesday it turned to cold nights with morning lows of 24-26 degr. Thanks for making this a great trip.

Hi everyone, I am looking for 1 additional person to drive down with to Death Valley. We will be making a stop to pick someone up off the 101 that is going on the trip as well. I would like to leave the bay area at 4 am on Weds so that we can still make good time with a few stops including the pick-up. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Gas and entrance fee will be split 3-ways. Let me know.

Hi every one, I am driving to DV on Wednesday. I want to leave Mill Valley by 6:00. I can go through the city on the way to Death Valley, but I wouldn't want to be driving around to find people's places, so it would be great to find a convinient meeting place. I really want to get going as early as possible, so I can make it to Death Valley by 5pm to set the tent. 10hr drive with probably a couple of stops. Share gas + entrance fee. I want to come back on Sunday -in SF by 6pm. Wanna come?

Anyone willing to leave from bay area around noon wed? thats probably when i can be out of work (mountain view). Split driving costs if we rent (gas + nps entrance fee); would be arriving midnight though. Thoughts/ideas email me.

COLD NIGHTS , the chill is affecting DV as well, they predict lows of ***18-40** (depending where you look), bundle up***much colder than last year.
Daytime range I found 52-68 go figure

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
