Cocoa Beach Surfing Weekend

Let's head over to Cocoa Beach for another awesome weekend of surfing!

We will plan to meet Saturday morning at Cherrie Down Park, a few miles north of the Cocoa Beach Pier on the same road.  Google the address listed above. If there are no spaces in the parking lot, (parking is free) the street(s) to the right of the park don't have meters and there is a path to walk through to the lot or out to the beach.

This surf spot is a favorite of locals, has free parking, showers, and bathrooms. Since its protected from the Cape, there are usually less winds here and the waves are great for newer surfers when its big. As usual, we will assess conditions and pick surf spots for sure when we get there - always check the comments on your way over to find out where we end up. If Cherrie Down is too small, we will probably end up at Lori Wilson Park - a little South of Ron Jon's off the main strip.  This spot also has free parking, showers, and bathrooms. For those staying overnight, we will head over to the port in the evening. The port is fun and has several bars and restaurants and places to listen and/or dance to live music.

I (Carol Ann) will be there between 8-8:30am Saturday. Look for the colorful gecko garden flag for our spot on the beach. In the water, look for my new light blue Torq 8.0. I have an extra 8.0 soft top foamie board. It's a great starter board. Email me if you want it for the weekend as I won't bring it unless someone specifically requests it.

For lodging - I recommend Luna Sea Motel - right on the main strip close to Ron Jons. They have very reasonable rates and the rooms are older but clean. 3185 N Atlantic Ave Cocoa Beach, FL 32931. Phone: (321) 783-0500.

Important - Call to make your reservations at least 2 weeks ahead - and tell them you are Carol Ann's surfer friend - they will give you a good rate.

For wetsuit and board rentals and lessons, I recommend Bilt Surf Shop. They are a couple miles south of Ron Jons at 210 N Orlando Ave Cocoa Beach, FL 32931. Phone number (321) 868-8820. They open at 9am on Saturday. Ron Jon's is open 24 hours and has board rentals as well.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!

This weekend we had some of the best conditions I've ever surfed on the East Coast. The offshore winds made for some of the most beautiful, big, A-frame waves. Saturday was a white water day, but Sunday was just amazing!! As usual, the crew we have varies on the days and times we surf, but everyone who has participated with us to date has been truly awesome peeps. Thanks to everyone that came out, and for those of you who haven't yet... do yourself a favor and get out as soon as you can. Water is warm enough to ditch the suits now. All you need is a good board, a rash guard, and your quest for adrenaline.. I can't even tell you how a day like today gets you stoked.. Just EPIC!! Can't wait to get back in the water. I'll be posting another Cocoa weekend trip soon so keep tabs on the site..

  • Carol A.

OK... Don't want to jinx it... but its back to offshore 3-5 foot Sunday all day on the surf report and the report has stayed that way all day now... May turn out to be a really awesome day... Keeping those fingers crossed..

Hey guys.. I would say if you're planning to come for just a day, Sunday is the better day. I will still be coming over for 8am Saturday and will be surfing Saturday. I can spend time with anyone new to go over basics on the beach and in the white water. We will also be going out for dinner and drinks at the Port Saturday night... So don't let iffy conditions deter you from coming this weekend. It will still be a blast. And surf reports aren't always right.

Hey Carol Ann, keep the fingers crossed. Our surf reporters are off most of the times. Yesterday was head high and very glassy all morning long. I was lucky to surf with a friend at our secret spot, and we had a blast. Sunday sounds good due to a cheerleading competition I must attend on Sat. for my 7 year old niece. Keep me informed on Saturday evening fun. Looking fwd. to seeing and surfing with the group.

Well at least there's shopping at Ron Jons 24 hours a day... LOL... Some strong white water conditions will be good for beginners...

    April 30, 2013

  • Ship

Yeah today is the day... Saturday is not looking good with overhead+ waves and 30mph onshore winds. Victory at sea conditions.

    April 30, 2013

  • Carol A.

Well today looks like a good day... Wish I could get over there!! Looks like winds have shifted to onshore and quite strong. Will probably end up staying in the Cape again at Cherie Down if it doesn't chill out a little

Surf has been pumping and may see some offshore winds for Saturday. Water temps are very nice, no more wetsuits. Skinned it all weekend.

Hope there is some kind of clean swell. My CB bro Kurt will be joining us and Kevin (28) from my office. Sold him my 9'10" Yater. Damn hated to sell it but have not risen that board in over a year.

Sounds fun. I have access to a home on 3rd Street South so I'm always hooked up for the weekends. Rusty's at the port is always a good time. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I can bring an extra longboard with me if someone needs a board.
