Let's head over to Cocoa Beach for another awesome weekend of surfing!
We will plan to meet Saturday morning at Cherrie Down Park, a few miles north of the Cocoa Beach Pier on the same road. Google the address listed above. If there are no spaces in the parking lot, (parking is free) the street(s) to the right of the park don't have meters and there is a path to walk through to the lot or out to the beach.
This surf spot is a favorite of locals, has free parking, showers, and bathrooms. Since its protected from the Cape, there are usually less winds here and the waves are great for newer surfers when its big. As usual, we will assess conditions and pick surf spots for sure when we get there - always check the comments on your way over to find out where we end up. If Cherrie Down is too small, we will probably end up at Lori Wilson Park - a little South of Ron Jon's off the main strip. This spot also has free parking, showers, and bathrooms. For those staying overnight, we will head over to the port in the evening. The port is fun and has several bars and restaurants and places to listen and/or dance to live music.
I (Carol Ann) will be there between 8-8:30am Saturday. Look for the colorful gecko garden flag for our spot on the beach. In the water, look for my new light blue Torq 8.0. I have an extra 8.0 soft top foamie board. It's a great starter board. Email me if you want it for the weekend as I won't bring it unless someone specifically requests it.
For lodging - I recommend Luna Sea Motel - right on the main strip close to Ron Jons. They have very reasonable rates and the rooms are older but clean. 3185 N Atlantic Ave Cocoa Beach, FL 32931. Phone: (321) 783-0500.
Important - Call to make your reservations at least 2 weeks ahead - and tell them you are Carol Ann's surfer friend - they will give you a good rate.
For wetsuit and board rentals and lessons, I recommend Bilt Surf Shop. They are a couple miles south of Ron Jons at 210 N Orlando Ave Cocoa Beach, FL 32931. Phone number (321) 868-8820. They open at 9am on Saturday. Ron Jon's is open 24 hours and has board rentals as well.
Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
Carol Ann, your co-organizer
