Learn To Surf Day in Cocoa Beach

Let's meetup in Cocoa Beach to learn how to surf!

This day will be for all beginner or newer surfers to introduce you to the basics of surfing, water and board safety and etiquette, and hopefully getting you infused with the surfing stoke for life!!

We held one of these a few months back and it went really well. We spent the first half of the day totally dedicated to teaching, and we had several more experienced members come and help out. We have a lot of new, beginner, or never surfed before members of the group and we still haven't seen many of you. So here's the meetup that you really can't refuse.. Especially since this weather is cooling and this may be your last chance to get in before wetsuits will be coming on!

Carol Ann will be there as the main "group" instructor, however, we would greatly appreciate any other experienced surfers to bring longboards and help out...

We will meet at Lori Wilson Park at 9:00am - a little South of Ron Jon's. This park has lots of free parking, showers, and bathrooms. There are two lots. We will park in the 1st lot as you are heading South on Atlantic.

We'll start on the beach with the basics of paddling and popping up, and then we'll spend some time in the white water practicing handling the board, paddling, sitting up, and popping up. By the end of the morning, you should be well on your way to surfing!

Ron Jon's opens at 8:00am for rentals and has foam longboard available for $10 for the day. I would recommend getting over to the East Coast by 8:00am so you can grab a board and be on the beach with us by 9am. We will start the "learning" session on the beach between 9:00am-9:15am.

Some of us may be staying over night and surfing all weekend. We usually head out to Coconuts or the Cape Canaveral Port in the evenings, and catch a morning surf session on Sunday before heading home. If you would like to spend the night, I recommend Luna's Sea Motel. They are almost across the street from Lori Wilson Park and have reasonable rates. Call weekdays after 3pm and tell them you are Carol Ann's surfer friend, and they will give you the $59 rate. Phone number: (321)[masked]

I have 2 longboards available for anyone who'd like to use them instead of renting. Please email me if you'd like to reserve one.  Any experienced surfer's with boards, please comment on the page if you can bring any extras so others can "reserve" them rather than rent.

Look forward to seeing you at Lori Wilson Park! Let's do this thing!!

Your Co-Organizer, Carol Ann

Made the crossing yesterday (thu) for stomach to shoulder high clean waves at 2nd Light. Winds calm to 5kts offshore. Due to the full moon the tides were exaggerated so be prepared to search for other breaks. Surf might be smaller and not as clean on Sat but should be good for teaching/learning. Enjoy!

Hey Mark, I find that Cocoa beach always has the right conditions for beginner surfers.. There's always something to surf over there, which is why it's the perfect spot to hold a beginners surf session! Hope to see you out there!

Remember, beginners stay in the shallows and we will be starting at the very very beginning. Some of us that have been surfing a while tend to forget that just hopping on the board and finding your balance is challenging!

Mark, I can help you with that.Sometimes I still have days like that when surf is big and periods are short in between waves. Well talk more that day.
