Learn To Surf Day in Cocoa Beach

Let's meetup in Cocoa Beach to learn how to surf!

This day will be for all beginner or newer surfers to introduce you to the basics of surfing, water and board safety and etiquette, and hopefully getting you infused with the surfing stoke for life!!

We hold these every couple of months and we usually get a great turnout. We spend the first half of the day totally dedicated to teaching, and then we put what we learn into practice the second half learning to balance and popping up.

Carol Ann will be there as the main "group" instructor, however, would love it if a few of you experienced surfers would come out and bring longboards and help out...

We will meet at Lori Wilson Park at 9:00am - a little South of Ron Jon's. This park has lots of free parking, showers, and bathrooms. There are two lots. We will park in the 1st lot as you are heading South on Atlantic.  Later in the day we will probably move further South after lunch as it gets crowded there in the afternoons.

We'll start on the beach with the basics of paddling and popping up, and then we'll spend some time in the white water practicing handling the board, paddling, sitting up, and popping up. By the end of the morning, you should be well on your way to surfing!

Ron Jon's opens at 8:00am for rentals and has foam longboard available for $10 for the day. I would recommend getting over to the East Coast by 8:00am so you can grab a board and be on the beach with us by 9am. We will start the "learning" session on the beach between 9:00am-9:15am.

Some of us may be staying over night and surfing all weekend. We usually head out to Coconuts or the Cape Canaveral Port or Cocoa Village. Then catch a morning surf session on Sunday before heading home. If you would like to spend the night, on the affordable side I recommend Econolodge. They are almost across the street from Lori Wilson Park and have reasonable rates. Tell them you are Carol Ann's surfer friend, and they will give you  a good rate. Phone number: (321)[masked]

Look forward to seeing you at Lori Wilson Park! Let's do this thing!!

Your Organizer, Carol Ann

Thanks so much for welcoming me to the meetup and introducing me to surfing. It looks like amazing fun and i had a great time. I will work on my comfort level with the water and start small (and safe) with bodyboarding and perhaps surfing with a thin buoyancy vest in the weeks to come. Great to meet everyone.

  • Carol A.

Heads up everyone.. The Surfrider Foundation (Including the Cocoa Beach Chapter) is having a beach clean up Saturday from 8-12, and Lori Wilson is one of the locations. There's a decent amount of parking, but I would recommend coming early just in case..

    September 16

  • Mack H.

Ok. Made the reservations at Econolodge for Friday and Saturday night so can be there early on Saturday morning. Looks like my college age daughter will be joining us for some surfing fun.

      September 15

  • Carol A.

For those of you coming to help out, THANK YOU! I will just need helpers mainly in the water to steady and push the newbies into whitewater. We may need one or two to paddle out with any advanced beginners who are paddling for green waves.

    September 15

  • Carol A.

Wow! I am so pumped to see the turnout for Saturday! Look forward to meeting all of you and getting you infused with the surf stoke! If you want instruction, please arrive on time. We follow a certain pattern in the morning to get everyone going. The afternoon we are still together but it's more practice on your own so the teachers can get some surf time too.

    September 15

  • Carol A.

Thanks Dean! We need people.to help in the water between 9:30-12 as the teaching portion is only in the morning. Grateful for whatever you can do! Thanks! Look forward to meeting you!

South Street Surf School. I don't think he is out of a shop. He is recommended by Suncoast Surf Shop in Treasure Island.

If any of the beginners are staying over Sat night and would like some additional instruction on Sun, the person my daughter and I just had a lesson from will give us a group discount. His rates are equivalent to the going rates for one hour, only he provides two hours for the same price.

Woohoo! We've hit the 20 mark again!! Looking forward to this.. Will need some help from you experienced surfers out there... And that means, if you are paddling for waves and popping up, you qualify to help... Please consider coming to volunteer your time for a few hours and help us build and share the Aloha spirit... Thanks everyone!!
