Let's meetup in Cocoa Beach to learn how to surf!
This day will be for all beginner or newer surfers to introduce you to the basics of surfing, water and board safety and etiquette, and hopefully getting you infused with the surfing stoke for life!!
We hold these every couple of months and we usually get a great turnout. We spend the first half of the day totally dedicated to teaching, and then we put what we learn into practice the second half learning to balance and popping up.
Carol Ann will be there as the main "group" instructor, however, would love it if a few of you experienced surfers would come out and bring longboards and help out...
We will meet at Lori Wilson Park at 9:00am - a little South of Ron Jon's. This park has lots of free parking, showers, and bathrooms. There are two lots. We will park in the 1st lot as you are heading South on Atlantic. Later in the day we will probably move further South after lunch as it gets crowded there in the afternoons.
We'll start on the beach with the basics of paddling and popping up, and then we'll spend some time in the white water practicing handling the board, paddling, sitting up, and popping up. By the end of the morning, you should be well on your way to surfing!
Ron Jon's opens at 8:00am for rentals and has foam longboard available for $10 for the day. I would recommend getting over to the East Coast by 8:00am so you can grab a board and be on the beach with us by 9am. We will start the "learning" session on the beach between 9:00am-9:15am.
Some of us may be staying over night and surfing all weekend. We usually head out to Coconuts or the Cape Canaveral Port or Cocoa Village. Then catch a morning surf session on Sunday before heading home. If you would like to spend the night, on the affordable side I recommend Econolodge. They are almost across the street from Lori Wilson Park and have reasonable rates. Tell them you are Carol Ann's surfer friend, and they will give you a good rate. Phone number: (321)[masked]
Look forward to seeing you at Lori Wilson Park! Let's do this thing!!
Your Organizer, Carol Ann
