Sign, Claygate

The redeveloped Ruxley Tower offers striking views and fine dining. Trompe I'oeil paintings complete the picture

Join walk leader Alison for a walk around her neighbourhood area of Claygate and Arbrook Common – pub lunch – we’ll visit Ruxley Towers a victorian edifice constructed by Lord Foley and also former home of Ronnie Wood. After lunch we'll continue our stroll to Telegraph Hill with it's semaphore station built in 1822 to transmit messages between the Admiralty and Portsmouth (now a private house).

Optional Coffee/Tea at end of walk at Joan’s Tea Room in Oaken Lane.

This is a SABRE led walk. If you haven't yet become a  member of either of our walking groups either SABRE (all welcome) or SAWW (membership 35-55 only) there's never been a better time to join us; because of our parent Ramblers current membership deal. Ask your walk leader about us or go to

Thanks Alison for a fab walk and pub lunch. The cherry on the icing was definitely your yummy home made cake with tea and sitting around chatting with the lovely group at your house. Thank you so much.

The walk organised by Alison was exceptional. A very friendly and sociable crowd. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, but do not recommend eating at The Foley.
