UPPER FROYLE, VILLAGE OF THE SAINTS, 6.5 Miles, one small hill

  • May 27, 2013 · 1:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join Paul on this rural walk that starts at the Hen & Chicken pub beside the A31. We walk to Upper Froyle known by locals as the 'village of the saints' because of the 17 statues of saints in niches above the doors of houses. We then follow St.Swithin's Way to Pax Hill, where we divert northwards to Lower Froyle and descend by Saintbury Hill back to Upper Froyle and the pub for refreshment.

The pub does an all day carvery (£9.95) from noon until 8pm. The walk distance is 6 miles (one slight hill). Ramblers' dogs only will be allowed. One stile can be by-passed by dog walkers, (or lifted over) by rejoining the rest of us on a country lane later on that we cross."

There will be other SAWW and SABRE members on this walk, who because they are Ramblers members do not have to RSVP. If you haven't yet become a  Rambler member of either of our walking groups SABRE (any age) or SAWW (new members 35-55 only) it's a  good time to join us; because of the half price membership deal on offer by our parent group the Ramblers. Please contact either groups' memberships secretary at [masked] or [masked]. Note both groups share the same walking programme and many other events

Hi, would like to join you on this walk. Will this walk a relax and a gentle one? Thank you. Cynthia

Yes Cynthia, the walk is mostly flat but there will be a few stiles to step over. Providing the weather is not too wet then it will be relaxing, taking about 3 hours.
