Basic Tree and plant identification and uses - foraging

  • Jun 8, 2014 · 9:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Being able to identify and know the uses of our native plants and trees is an interesting and useful skill to have if you spend time in the countryside. It is also essential if you are foraging plants for food or medicinal uses.

This session will look at the identification and uses of some of the more common and easily recognisable trees and plants in season at this time of year. We will also cover foraging law and good practice. We will be walking through our wood and along local footpaths so you will need appropriate footwear and wet weather clothing. You might also like to bring along suitable bags if you wish to collect samples and a notepad and pen.

This session will take place in our 21 acre dedicated site near Horsham.

All of our team are all qualified Bushcraft instructors, first aid trained and have our own unique skills.

Please bring your own lunch and snacks. We will provide tea and coffee.

Due to the nature of the day and the activities, the session is open to anyone over 14, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult (ratio of 2 children to 1 adult) who will be responsible for supervising the children throughout the day.

If required, we will provide knives for your use, so please do NOT bring your own.

Always a great day, and as ever I learnt a lot, some of which I hope to still remember on Monday.

Hi Phil. Unfortunately I have to say no. We don't let course members dogs at the wood as if everyone brought theirs the situation would be unmanageable. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Regards Phil

Hi how do we pay for this? Is it on the day or prior to meetup? Also I have a car and live in Brighton so can help if someone requires a lift.

Hi. By signing up you should be asked to pay.

Hi Kim, when you RSVP for the meet-up, it will then ask you to pay via PayPal. I hope that you can make it along.

I want to come! I may be able to give a lift to someone, leaving from Worthing

Thanks for offering lifts chaps. Whilst we are happy to offer pickups from the station it means only one instructor can set up the camp.

I'll also have a car with at least one space, maybe two. Seven Dials area. Happy to give lifts

Hey Nick and the other greenies. I'm at fiveways and will be borrowing a car, so happy to offer anyone a lift from there and back.

    is anyone driving from Brighton?

    April 6, 2014

    • Phil L.

Hi Nick. Neither myself or Kev are but one of us would be able to pick you up from Christ's Hospital train station which is the nearest to the wood. Alternatively someone from Brighton might sign up and be driving.
