New Certificate Program

"Urban Sustainability in Jersey City"

What is this ?

Sustainable JC is offering this Certificate Program in partnership with Ramapo College, the Cloud Institute and Hudson County Community College.

For those interested in being more effective in their green civics activities here in Jersey City . . . OR . . . if you are thinking about transitioning your career into the FINALLY emerging green economy . . . OR . . . you just want to learn more about various sustainability topics and development practices and how these all hang together, this track is a great primer for you.

Upon completion you would have completed 18 hours of in-classroom time and 3 hours of offline study thru our affiliation with the Natural Step, a well known non-profit education org, which offers you a study track to learn more about systems thinking thru a strategic framework they've developed - see

Sustainability is often rather abstract to most folks and with this opportunity you will understand how these concepts can be applied in our urban community and how they are interconnected.

Check out this link, care of the Surdna Foundation, for a better understanding of this -

We have limited space for 15 participants (maybe a couple more) and are offering 5 scholarships - see Q & A below. For details about the workshops see the registration link below.

Q & A , anticipating some questions you might have . . .

Q - Can I take individual workshops or do I have to take the whole 9 workshop series ?

A - You can take any single workshop or selection of workshops but best deal is to take the entire Certificate Course - $25 per workshop or $20 each if you register for the whole program / all 9 sessions ($180)

Q - What is the scholarship program and how do I apply?

A - SJC is offering a 50% discount ($90) to those who wish to barter 9 hours of service on behalf of Sustainable JC's activities in the community. If this is of interest contact Deb Italiano for more information at[masked] The scholarship applies to the in-classroom 9 sessions / 18 hours only, not the online Natural Step course for which we've gained a 50% discount as below.

Q - I see below that there is an additional fee for the online course thru the Natural Step education center; how do I register for that and is it a pre-requisite before taking the first in-classroom workshop?

A - Yes, taking this online 3 hour course is a pre-requisite to taking the first workshop scheduled for Mon evening April 1st. The Natural Step org usually charges $90 for their course but thru our affiliation with them SJC can offer their course to you for half price, i.e., $45 ; once you register for that first workshop or the Certificate Series, we will send you a promo code to register for that course directly on their site.
