SJC Monthly Meeting - EAT, MEET, TALK !

August Monthly Meeting -

Special Guest - Brian Holt / JC Environmental Commission will be joining us to provide an overview of JCEC 2014 Priorities and join in discussion of community educational outreach with focus on new partnership between SJC and JCEC and collaboration opportunities to do this.

SJC Business - FOLLOW-UP DISCUSSION to #BeTheChangeJC meeting hosted by The Citizen's Campaign July 21st at St. Paul's located in the emerging Five Corners Eco District.

This follow-up discussion will build on our June & July monthly meetings where we discussed 1) strategies available to City Hall to design future focus of Eco Sustainability into the City's Budget Process, and 2) opportunities to take a 'systems approach' to sustainability / climate change planning,  for ALL development projects in Jersey City.

MANY folks turned out for the Citizen's Campaign event in mid-June and hopefully many will gather to continue to self-organize into cluster groups of interest.  The Citizen's Campaign has fabulous training which can benefit YOU, especially if you are interested to collaborate with SJC to move a Sustainability (Environmental, Social and Economic Impacts) Agenda forward for Jersey City.  We strongly support their evidence-based, no blame approach and is the way we conduct business.

 Two examples . . . .

1.  SJC is aligning our Greener Buildings, Green Infrastructure, Solar / Alternative Clean Energy Project Teams and digging in with some work streams this Summer that will support -

 > the emerging Five Corners Eco District neighborhood revitalization model we are designing,

> changes we seek to the Jersey City Building Code, and

> assessment of current green ordinances and policies currently on the books for Jersey City - this is an opportunity to present useful checklists and policy / ordinance proposals, to City Council and other officials to help move JC forward.

2.  New collaboration with Open JC on a Jersey City Trees Urban Forestry Project.Tree Mapping initiative in 3 neighborhoodsCommunity education / stewardship initiative

If you are interested to join these working groups, please let us know !

Our planning activities also include deepening our educational outreach activities in such areas as Recycling Food Waste and launching more innovative demonstration projects for Jersey City.  We are very excited about the support we can provide to neighborhood initiatives through our project funding platform with charitable donations partner ioby.org and SJC is looking for more folks to join our ranks to make this happen.  Let us know if you would like to be involved in these areas !

If you have any grant writing experience please indicate that on our Welcome Survey, which we ask everyone who wants to volunteer with us to take; is very quick and will also put you into our system so you can receive all of our notifications.

Please attend our August meeting if you are interested to work with us on these and other activities; we will present and overview of those at the meeting.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
